SUGGESTED ECTOPIC? AAHHHHHHHH i COULD SCREAM

by kaydiane, Feb 01, 2007 12:00AM
My story so far is below. I have now had it suggested that with 11300 hcg they should definatly see a baby and that it must be somewhere and could be ectopic?? Is this true, anyone had high hcg but not been able to see anything on scan?? No pain one side or anything...well yet anyway! would a scan not pick it up anyway?

xxxx

Well the results for the second HCG are in...!!

10 jan 07 - 474 hcg
12 jan 07 - 900

10 jan scan showed thickening of womb only

29 jan 07 - scan showed 4 week sac only
29 jan 07 - Hcg 9000

Today 31 jan 07 - hcg 11300

Now the hospital say that this is ok as when hcg reaches 6000 they don't expect to see it double until 4 days or over.

Is that right?? So I am still scared stiff and still don't have an answer! I have another scan on Monday but am scared as they asked me to make sure hubby was there(he would be anyway)

xxxxx

How far do you think you are??  It may be too early

by kaydiane, Feb 01, 2007 12:00AM
really not sure,I think about 6 weeks but sac is 4 weeks. I have irregular periods so difficult to know.

If they saw a sac in your uterus then it's not ectopic. It doesn't rule out an abnormal pregnancy, but a sac in the uterus means the pregnancy is developing where it should be.

I don't understand why they would be concerned about an EP unless the doctor thought it was a pseudo sac on the u/s.

I don't know, I asked and they said just because their is a gestation sac does not mean that it isn't ectopic??? They also said that with HCG level they would expect to see something more..

by mslkpage, Feb 01, 2007 12:00AM
If they're certain it was a gestational sac, then it's not ectopic. The only way there could be an EP is if there was a twin embryo developing somewhere other than the uterus, but that's very rare.

A sac that's measuring 2 weeks smaller than the gestaional age is a concern, but at 6 weeks you can't see much more than a sac.

I really don't know then, they definatly said it was a gest sac...thank you..fingers and toes crossed!

I had an u/s at my RE's office today, and I am 6 weeks. The reason for the u/s was to determine if the pregnancy was in my uterus, because I've had an ectopic before. Once the doctor saw the sac, he said the only way there could be an ectopic is if a twin was developing somewhere. I don't know what my hcg is (after the second draw, he quit checking it), but my doc said at 6 wks, a sac is usually all that can be seen.

Hope that makes you feel a little better.

I know what you are feeling. Three months ago, docs thought that I was having an ectopic. Went for 2 us (found a sac) and a bunch of blood test later to determine it was a false pg. How far are you? Why are they checking your levels so regulary? I am sorry that you have to wait all weekend for some more test, that is the worst.
My levels went up for my second hcg test, but not as much as they should have. So tomorrow I go for a us to see if there is a heartbeat or sac. So I will say a prayer again for you to try to stay strong, I know that that is easier said then done. I havent found a way to get my mind of it.
Please keep us posted!
God Bless

Hi there:

I'm not trying to scare you, but I have had a few blighted ova, and each time they had to track HCG to make sure there wasn't an ectopic.

Apparently you can get a "phantom sac" with an ectopic.  This was coming from an RE at Stanford.

Has anyone else heard of this?

Good luck to you.

I have included on of my first posts so you understand why I had early HCG and scan. I have no idea how far along I am due to no period in december and a neg test in december.I have read about b'ovum and this is also a possibility...xx

Ok Just to recap, brown spotting since 1/1/07 - positive test 8&9/1/07 Scan and HCG on 10/1/07. Scan showed thinkening of womb and a cystic area HCG were 474 and doubled in 48 hrs.
Still spotting today, second internal scan and they saw a sac HCG 9000. Now the nurse said that this is consistant with a 4 week pregnancy bu I thought I was at least 6.5 weeks but due to no december cycle I am unsure. Intimacy dates were 24/12/06 28/12/06 and 6/1/07.

hi there. i had an ectopic in Sept 2006. My symptoms was dizziness, brown spotting (like the last day of a period) and i had pains on my side. In the u/s they could see nothing in the uterus but a mass in my tube. I hope this helps and good luck.

That was the pseudo sac that I mentioned in my first reply. It sounds like her doc is certain of an embryonic sac, though, if he says it's measuring 2 weeks small.
