Same-gender siblings...

Same-gender siblings...

I'm curious (and bored) so here goes an idea I've been tossing around to my friends... let's see what you think...

I have been noticing around me and everywhere that most people seem to be having one kind of gender, like if you already have a girl, odds are you're having a second girl...

I don't know if it's possible but I think that men now produce one kind of sperm predominantly... I know it's true for me cause I'm having another boy just as I suspected...

What about your family and friends? Are there more of the same gender siblings or boys and girls are mixed in the same family?

Remember that the sex of a child is determined at conception by the man's sperm. So if your children have different dads, my theory goes out the window!

I have a sister who has 4 daughters.   I have 1 daughter. Both of my aunts had daughters. My Grandma on my Moms side had 3 girls.   No boys in my family unless they are there by marriage.

In my husbands family (extended family included) there were 24 boys to 1 girl born in the last 16 years!!

My family are all same-gender kids; I am one of 5 girls, my sisters each have 2 boys.  This doesn't prove much, of course -- my cousins all come from mixed-gender families.

Well, I have a boy from a previous marriage.  But my husband and I have 4 daughters together.  We are pregnant again, and odds are it's another girl, but everyone I know keeps telling me they think I am having a boy this time for some reason.  Even my own kids.  Weird...

I will list some examples though....All same father examples of course.

I come from only a family of 2 children which is me and my brother.  One of each.  My dad is also from a family of only 2 children, one of each.

My husband is 1 of 4 kids.  His parents had 3 boys and then #4 ended up being a boy.

I have an aunt and uncle.  They had 6 children.  The first 4 were all girls.  #5 was a boy, and then #6 was a girl.

My brother has 3 kids and one on the way.  His first was a boy.  Then #2 and #3 were both girls.  Now #4 is a boy.  So, he will have an exact equal mix.

So, I do think your theory could be right in some cases.  But for some reason, not with everyone.

But I have also noticed that it almost seems like the opposite happens from the previous generation.  What I mean is take my husband for example...He had 2 brothers and 1 sister, making 3 boys in all.  But yet, my husband seems to produce the opposite from what his father produced.

My uncle (mentioned above) had the 6 kids with only 1 boy.  Yet my uncle was also 1 of 4, with 3 being boys and only 1 girl.  So, my uncle produced the opposite of what his father produced.

But yet my brother comes from 1 of each and he will have 2 of each.  It's like he produced what my dad produces.

I don't know the answer but it's very strange.....But very interesting and I have often thought about this topic myself.

I actually just had a conversation about this ealier this week.  The person has three sons.  I don't know if this applies to both girls and boys but this is what he told me.

He said, for the first child you have about a 50/50 (it isn't actually 50/50 but close) of having a boy or a girl.  If your first child is a boy, the odds of your second childing being a boy, goes up to 60%, and if your second child is a boy, the odds of your third child being a boy goes up to 80%, and that if your third child is a boy.. the odds of your forth child being a girl becomes incredibly small.  I found that very interesting.

My cousins first child with dh #1 was a girl. Then she married a man who had twin girls already. They had 2 more girls together. It sure seems like it in a lot of families. I got my mix. Just lucky I guess. My dh had 2 daughters and now a boy! My ex dh had boy, then 2 more, and then finally a girl.

Most of the families I know have more of one gender than the other. Two boys, one girl seems to be the most...  I know a few that are two girls or two boys. One with three girls...

My own fam is girl, girl, girl, boy so it is possible to have the opposite sex after three of the same!  It is always a 50/50 chance for the sex.

Well it may be possible that some men have "stronger" male or female swimmers giving a preference for one gender but I doubt any have only one type except in very rare cases maybe.  Hmmm, now that I am thinking about this I guess it is possible to have a germ cell mutation which would maybe kill off one type of sperm.  This would be a rare occurrence though.  Something to research...

Doesn't fit my family...I have two brothers.  My husband has a sister so we're a "mixed" sibling family.  I have a daughter and am TTC for another baby...time will tell!  :)

My generation was mostly girls, only time the gender changes was when the dad changed.

I have 3 boys, all the same dad.

My real mom is one of 5, 4 are girls. My dad is one of 5, same thing.

They say the boy sperm are faster, but girls are more durable. I tried the Shettles method and still had 3 boys. Some guess that gender may influence miscarriage with some women. That some women cannot carry a certain gender. Some also say some men may make more gender-specific sperm. My dh joked he got rid of all the girls when he was a teenager (before he was having sex with anyone, lol)

Lots of theories, no solid conclusions.

Though I do find it funny you brought this up as I just had this conversation with my dh 2 days ago.

I am one of 3 girls....my mother is one of 3 girls...my husband is 1 of 3 boys out of 10 children (he has seven sisters).  His sisters have almost all girls...(he has 23 nieces and about 5 nephews) I have one girl.  I don't plan to have more children however the odds that I would conceive another girl I feel are pretty darned good.

god i hope not, my bf has already 2 boys from previous marriage but me and him want 2 girls...

soooo, that better not be true...

after reading all of this, i was thinking, my granny from my moms side had 7 or 8 kids, more girls then boys, my granny of my dads side had 5 kids and more boys then girls, my dad had a son, then met my mom and had twin girls and then me (of course a girl), a friends hubby had a girl in his first marriage and then married my friend and had twin boys

so i heard and read somewhere that the pH level plays a role, by eating more dairy products, milk, chocolate, fresh fruits, tomatoes, rice, chocolates, pasta, unsalted foods, it will be in favor of a girl

also if i look at the history, i feel like if the man switches the "baby mommy" the gender of the baby will be the oppersite of what you had before with the "ex"

but that is just my opinion

also, there are SO many things playing an important role for either way, 1 kind of sperm dies faster then the other, 1 swims faster, and then theirs the pH level

so like i said before, i hope that is not true and i hope i might be right about the opperiste gernder with different woman, that be great, i want 2 baby girls like SOOOOO badly

:)

That's really funny, I was talking about this w/my pregnant sister this weekend. She has 2 girls and pregnant with (not finding out the sex) 3rd. The u/s lady said, girl? my sister said she wasn't finding out. The lady said "oh you have 2 girls at home, chances are this is another girl" I thought that was weird. I am one of 5. There are 4 girls and the last was a boy. My uncle had 3 girls and the last was the boy. I have one of each :)

This is an interesting topic. Dh and I have 1 girl. Dh's mom had one of each. Dh's one grandma had one of each, the other grandma had two girls. My mom had one of each. My one grandma had 2 girls and 1 boy. My other grandma had 3 girls and one boy. My brother had one of each and dh's sister has one of each. Interesting! :)

Well I'm an only child and my mom is an only child.  Richie's side, his mom had 3 boys and 1 girl, girl being the last.  Richie has 2 boys and a girl.  The boy was first, daughter second and then our son third.  His sister has 1 girl.  His brother has 2 girls, his other brother has 1 boy.  So we really don't have any consistency just yet.

I have seen that with most of our family friends its mixed in each family.  On my dad's side of the family there are 5 girl grandkids and 7 boys and 3 boy great grandkids.  On my mom's side there are 12 girl grandkids and 6 boy grandkids.  5 girl great grandkids and 6 boy great grandkids.
