Scan at 6+5 but no baby? Any advice please?

Wonder whether anyone can help me. I had a bit of bleeding last Saturday - not much just a bit of light spotting but as I'd already had one m/c and bled on my second pregnancy I had been told any bleeding to go to EPU. They tested me and all was well. Cervix was closed no sign of bleeding etc but when scanned I was only measuring 5+6 - too early to see anything. The sac was there and everything else was fine. Went back today when I should have been 6+5 and still no sign of baby but the sca had grown. I now have to go back next Friday to be re-scanned. Only had one set of bloods done (HCG) which came back at 5,500 - which apparently was good but haven't had any more done so can't tell if their dropping. I have bad morning sickness so the sonographer said there must be a pregnancy in there somewhere to make me feel so bad. When I spoke to a midwife in our local birthing centre she said she wouldn't even have scanned me until I was between 7 + 8 weeks as you can't see anything. Has anyone else been in this postion. Could it be a blighted ovum? MY AF is usually between 32 and 34 days but they've taken the dates at 32 days. Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Ellie xx

it does sound like it could be a blighted ovum.  by 6w5d you should see some sort of fetal pole and yolk sac especially with levels above 2000 which yours are.  they should run another hcg.  with my first pregnancy i had a blighted ovum and they didn't scan me (and hence I did not find out) until 10weeks!!!!  My second pregnancy was also a miscarriage which I found out about at 8 weeks.  I had no bleeding or cramping either time.  This time all is well and I was sure to have a scan at 6 weeks!  AT 5 weeks they should see the gestational sac.  At 6 weeks they should see the sac, yolk sac and fetal pole possibly with heartbeat.  by 8 weeks a heartbeat should be visible.  Best of luck - it is so hard to wait I know.

There are a lot of women here on these forums who were told they had a blighted ovum or something else.  For some it took till almost 11 weeks to see a heartbeat on an ultrasound at all (especially if not done transvaginal).  I would wait for another week or two and have another u/s done and a second opinion.

Please, please, please refrain from saying "You should see...."

That simply is not the case. Every woman is different.

It is normal to only see the SAC at 6 weeks. That's why many OBGYN's do not even do an ultrasound until you are 8-10 weeks along. There's not much to see at 6 weeks.

I say if you are bleeding, it should always be checked out by a doctor and an u/s should be done. It may not do much other than add a little worry, but better safe than sorry. If you are having a normal pregnancy without cramping or bleeding, then 8-10 weeks is fine. But, my best friend just lost her fallopian tube at 6w because of an ectopic that ruptured. If the dr. had done an u/s the week before they would have seen that there wasn't even a sac growing in her uterus and would have checked the tubes. They might have caught this earlier and she wouldn't be missing one of her tubes right now. When I went in to my dr. at 6w I was given an u/s and there was a sac and no baby and my doctor prepared me for a m/c. I ended up loosing the baby 1 week later. He knew this based on what he saw (or lack thereof ) in the u/s. At 6 weeks you will be able to see a little pea inside of a sac, not just an empty sac.
