Seasonal Allergies solution for Nursing mom

by DollChina, Mar 29, 2007 12:00AM
Hi ladies, Spring is here.  I usua;ly suffer seasonal allergies with asthma but I'd take Zyrtec and my inhaler to get relieve.  Now that I am breast feeding, what can I do to reduce my allergies symtoms?

Thanks!

HI.  I know that Zyrtec is a Cat C during pregnancy and is excreted into breast milk in unknown amounts.
Sudafed though is compatible with BF-ing.
You can always check www.safefetus.com.

Hi - I don't know if being pg is compatible with nursing and what meds are safe, but I just saw my OB on Tuesday for my regular appt, and she said taking Claritin is perfectly acceptable for me (I'm 26w6d).  Again, not sure if this means anything for someone who is nursing.  Good luck!

i'm taking Nasarel - took it the whole pregnancy and will continue to take it now. Claritin, etc don't help me at all. i think the amt that passes into breastmilk is either very small, or too small to be measured.

I used zyrtec my entire pregnancy and nursed on it as well.

I have very bad allergies and I am pregnant.  My doctor just took me off of Zyrtec and put me on Allegra D!!  Big change

I take regular Allegra 60mg twice a day and it works really well.  My pediatrician says it's OK for baby.  She's 3 months old and breastfed exclusively.
