Seizure caused by pain?

by carvalhofreitas, Oct 06, 2005 12:00AM
Is it possible for a 4-year old child to have a seizure after feeling pain caused by an accidental bump on the leg, and is it normal for a seizure to happen with no trembling of the body, just whiteness on the lips and brief loss of consciousness?

Unusual things happen all the time. However I do not think that a bump on the leg w/ pain is the cause of a seizure. Seizures also manifest themselves in many forms and do not always require the typical shaking to be considered one. The loss of consciousness should be a concern and I recommend you take him to his doctor for an evaluation.

Seizures can be triggered by sound, light, touch among other things, usually involves some shaking, body being ridgit
I would strongly suggest having your child checked by your doctor

First of all, does your child have a seizure disorder?  Has he ever had a seizure before?  Seizures can appear in many different ways and there are many different names for them.  My son had seizures from birth to age 10.  They were always changing. So yes, white lips and a loss of consciousness can be a form of a seizure.  As well, different situations can trigger seizures as well if your child has a seizure disorder.  I suggest you see your child's doctor or neurologist if this type of a seizure is unusual for him.  You don't want to fool around with this, especially if a loss of consciousness is involved.

I hope you resolve this soon.

yes,
i believe you can have a Seizures caused by pain.
Everytime i have a seizure I had some sort of pain first.
I believe that if you are in pain, you tense up(or try not to cry) and when you do this you overwork your muscles in some way causing you to have a seizure.
Its terrifying to have one, knowing that I cant control them, and just so you know whats going on in your childs mind its trying to figure out a way to control its own body.  Seizures cause you to feel like a slave to the one thing you have in your life. your body.
by the way: ALWAYS write down how long the seizure was, what it effected, and possible causes.
just so when you do seek medical help you know the average length and how often.
good luck,
and heres a good web-site that you can research more help on.

I've just had a seizure that lasted approximatly 1 minute. It was caused when I hit my elblow very hard on the floor. This has happened in the past when I was 12 or 13. I am now 29. I was unaware that a seizure took place before until this time when my wife was with me, it just feels like I pass out. Can anyone advise?.

Been researching this exact thing tonight.  Look up vasovagal syncope.  It's basically fainting or becoming faint after pain or similar stresses.  They can resemble seizures, but from your description, it seems to fit this exactly.
