Shooting pains??

by LisaLuke, Jun 13, 2007 12:00AM
Hello, I'm breastfeeding my son who is two weeks old and i've been getting some sharp shooting pains in both breasts.  Is this a normal thing to have? I get them a few times a day and not just when i'm feeding.

when I had my daughter I had pain all the time for around 3 to 4 weeks. My breast went up two sizes so it may end soon.My grandmother told me to put cabbage leaves on my breast I thought she was crazy but I tried it, it helped some my breast were full and hard with milk thats why they were hurting so bad.

I had those too and I was told that the first few weeks your do get engorged, but your body will right itself.  The only thing about the cabbage leaves is that it helps to dry up milk, so don't do it too much if you are breastfeeding.  My mom did that after her babies and it helped to dry her up in a few days.

Very normal, the postive is if you have more kids it doesn't hurt the next time!

It is normal but if u experience itching or white patches on ur nipples or babys mouth it could be thrush. Keep an eye on it. =)
