Should I ask 4 2nd opinion?

by Mediteranean Girl, Mar 04, 2005 12:00AM
hello ladies, I was just wondering if it is a good idea to go see another Dr to get a second opinion!! I've been trying to get pregnant for over a year. I had a M/C last June. I've been taking Clomid 50mg for two cylces, unfortunately i just had my period yestarday :( My Dr seems to be Okay with everything, and relax!! he doesn't show enough Enthusiasm. I know he deals with lots of people like my case but ... he keeps telling me you are too young to worry!!! (I'm mid 20s )waht do you think? should i consult another DR or not?
How long do I have to take CLOMID before i can get any results (from your experiences)

you have only been on clomid for 2 months correct? i would give it at least 6 months before seeking other places. i have multiple friends that were on it for 1 year and are now pg. just relax and have fun!!!!

I Think the biggest reason why people who are trying to get pregnant  arent- is because they are trying!!  It does stress you out worrying about periods will I get it- wont I am I pregnant or not  I took clomid for 6 months taking temperatures and stuff and said forget it!  Sex became a chore and who likes doing Chores!!!  Phone the hubbby ok its time  it never was fun when you HAD to do it.
I have 3 kids----end of story!!!

You aren't too young to worry if you have been trying for over a year to get pregnant.  I would give the Clomid more time, as another person suggested.  Next time you meet with the doctor, ask what the next course of action will be.  If you are not satisfied with that answer, tell him that you would like a referral to a reproductive endocrinologist or similar specialist in infertility.

Also--I'm assuming your husband has had a sperm count?  If this hasn't been done, it should be done ASAP.

any time your doctor isn't as concerned about your health as you are you should see another doctor. some people get pregnant on clomid the 1st cycle. For some it takes up to 6 months or never happens. is he making sure you are ovulating at that dose?

My Dr. doesn't want me to use ovulation strips, he wants me to have intercourse every other day for the 12th day of my cycle to 18th. So basically i don't know if i'm ovulating at all, although i fell some discomfort in my ovairies area, and the mucus from my cervix is clear and slippery. are these enough indications that i'm ovulating? what do you think.

Christie2004, My husband has not had a sperm count. We thought that since I had a M/C before he should be fine, and the pb is me. I don't know if have mentionned before that i have some minor Thyroid pbs. I'm taking Glucophage to reduce my blood sugar level which might help me get a healthy egg (according to my Genycologist and Endocrinologist)
Please help if u have any suggestion form previous experiences. I'm desperate

I'd still have one done.  Sometimes problems can wax and wane, and even men with low sperm counts can sometimes father children.  Checking him out will just make absolutely certain that there is no complicating issues with his "boys".

you so so so need to see another doctor. what he should be doing is to have you have a blood test around the 20th day of your cycle to check your progesterone level. then if you aren't ovulating he should increase the clomid dose. any cycle he doesn't do that could just be a wasted cycle for you. about the slippery CM and the pain in the ovarian area... i have had both of those signs and not ovulated (my doc did the blood test to find out). I too was on clomid and metformin for awhile, but they didn't work for me. My hubby has a low count and low motility and with me having ovulatory problems we knew we were in for some trouble... but after several years we are finally 14 weeks pregnant so it can happen even with all the odds stacked against you. I credit less stress and the south beach diet for my success, but it could have just been one of  those things.

will your insurance let you go and see a reproductive endocronologist without a referral? you should look into it.

let us know how it goes. we're here for you.

Congrats!!! I whish you the best.
Yeah i can go see an Endocrinologist w/out referal. In fact I already did and he said that my thyroid gland size is a bit bigger than usual and i have unbalanced hormones level... that's why i'm taking Glucophage.
I will concider going back to see my Endocrinologist and a different Genyco.
So, You were not taking CLOMID to get pregnant? What other tips you could give me besides what you already told me.
I have been in the states for only short period of time, and i don't know lots of people yet. Any advice would be very apreciated=)
Thanks
