Should I treat yeast infection during 1st Trimester?

by slc, Jan 29, 2007 12:00AM
I was diagnosed last week with a yeast infection and some bacteria. (I guess bacterial vaginosis)  She gave me a vaginal cream for the yeast and antibiotics for the bacteria.  Both of these medicines say not to use during the 1st trimester when I look them up on the web.  (unless deemed necessary by your dr)  My symptoms are lessening and my dr. did say that this can clear up on its own.  I am 10w1d and would really like to wait it out until I am around 12/13 weeks.  Would that be bad to do?  If my symptoms get worse, I will take the medicine.  I just want to be cautious.  I do trust my dr., but I just know its best not to take anything in the 1st trimester if you can help it.  Anyone else have this during their first trimester? Thank you.

Is there any thing else that would help get rid of yeast infection.  Maybe eating lots of yogurt!!  You dont want it to get worse either b/c that might not be good for the baby.....hmmmmm tough call.  Try calling a pharmacist, somtimes they have good advice.  Good luck.

If your dr says its ok to use then I would say its ok.  They would not give you anything that would harm your baby.  Its better to treat the infection than to let it go for a couple weeks.  Did you go on www.safefetus.com??

I had some bacteria at 7 weeks with this baby.  It was causing bleeding and I had to take a weeks worth of antibiotics.  Just be careful with waiting too long with regards to the bacteria - it could cause problems if not treated now.

honestly, a yeast infection is way more uncomfortable, and I would taken the medicine.  yeast infections are very very common during pregnancy.

Do you mind telling me what kind of medicine you had to take?  She gave me oral clindmycin.  I think it is safe, but side effects say nausea, vomiting and possible intestinal infection.  I am sick with morning sickness right now and hate to think of taking a medicine that will make me more sick! uggh.

I'm really sorry, I don't remember what I took.

I was feeling morning sickness and I do know that it did not make it any worse.  I also know that the doc prescribed a suppository type cream but the pharmacy didn't carry the cream so they gave me the oral pill version instead.  That's all I know.  Sorry!

I think you should treat both of those infections. I have read that they are causes of some miscarriages/preterm births and it is just not worth it to risk it.

I think you should definitly treat it.
I had a yeast infection back in october, and it wouldn't go away and was getting worst, I went to the doctor and turned out I had an infection of the cervix caused by the yeast infection left untreated.

I am yeast infection prone. I've had two of them in the first trimester. There are safe antibiotics you can take. Bactrum worked the best for me. Ask your doctor about that. sometimes the creams are just temporary relief.
