Should we try again

by forever in hope, Jan 08, 2007 12:00AM
I was wondering if anyone else has been in my situation. I have posted before so some may know my story. To update, I am 37 yrs old and have been trying to conceive for 8 yrs. We have used Clomid, tried IUI, and have had 2 IVF cycles. (I miscarried at 5 1/2 weeks with 2nd attenpt in Sept 06 -- still find it difficult to write that as thought we finally made it. Anyway, Doc advised me to have a myomectomy (surgically remove a fibroid from my uterus)-- which I did and I am out of hospital a few weeks. (Recovery is 8 wks in total as it is quit a big op). He does not hold much hope for a 3rd IVF attempt as I only had 3 follicles with attempt number 2. So I am also wondering why he even encouraged me to do this op, as I was not symptomatic. Any advice would be appreciated. Good luck and best wishes to all who are struggling with their own difficulties.

I have no experience in this, but I say keep tring.  Maybe go to another dr and get a second oppinion on what you should be doing.  Maybe you just need fresh eyes to check you out and find the missing link.  Have you thought about adoption?  There are so many children that need loving homes.  I tried for 10 months and had no luck.  I finally prayed and told the lord that if 12 months came around and no baby I would know that ment I was suppose to addopt my baby and I would know that was the reason I could not get pregnant.  The next month I was pregnant, but I still wonder sometimes if I should adopt.  Good luck!

All you need is one embryo to make a pregnancy so I think if the doc. thinks it could work and you and dh feel strongly about trying again I think you should go for it.  I am trying to decide If I can go through IVF again and the tww.  I have done 3 IVF and the last one finally worked but ended at 20weeks and 5 days with a stillbirth.  My IVF doc gets a lot of eggs from me usually around 15 each time but only 2 good eggs to fertilize so that is all you need.  Best of luck I know how hard it is and what you are going through.

Hi, Thanks for your comments and advice. I think we probably will try again (I can feel the anxiety already, which is not a good thing).

To ama67, I am so sorry for all you have had to go through. That must have been so difficult. I hope everything works out for you in the end.
