This morning I fed him and he seemed pretty good. I gave him a small amount of the ammox and he seemed okay, so I gave him the rest. He puked it right back out and then 45 minutes later he puked again.
Hannah- you might want to call your doc because both of my older children are allergic to Amoxicillin and how we figured it out was that they puked it back up and both got a rash with it.
My son developed an alergy (allergy) to amoxicillin as well ... but not until he was 9 years old, so you just never know. Just check on him and make sure his color and breathing look ok. It sounds like sleep might be the best thing for him right now...
Well the nurse finally called back. I told her about the rash but when I look for it to describe it to her it had faded.
the dr would not change his antibiotic. I don't know why, but he won't. He said no more antibiotics today, give him some pedialite and if he keeps that down to give him some watered down formula and to give him the antibiotic in the morning. If he pukes it up, give him a call back at that time.
When Jacob got up for his nap, he seemed pretty good. He did well with the pedialite and was hungry so I gave him some formula. He kept them both down and was being playful. Extra snuggly tho, so I know he isn't feeling great.
He also had a watery diaper so maybe he does have a bug. We'll see how the rest of the night and tomorrow goes. Thanks for all your help.
Abby got her first ear infection with her six month shots - after a late night trip to the emergency room for the high temp and six hours of straight crying - they put her on Amoxicillin and told us to alternate Tylenol and Motrin. She did fine with her first day of the amoxicillin and tylenol and motrin - that night, started noticing fine lacy rash on tummy - second day did ok with first dose of amoxicillin and then vomited huge amount of bottle and amoxicillin with the second dose - rash also started spreading and covered her whole body by end of day - also vomited third dose of amoxicillin - took her back to the doctor who said to take her off the Motrin, that could cause the upset tummy and said that all three meds might be too much for her to handle and might cause her to vomit - he also gave her an injection of amoxicillin and made us wait twenty minutes before leaving to watch for a reaction (needle is thick so prepared) There was no reaction and the injection was good for 24 hours - doctor felt rash was roseola - I found that if I put the amoxicillin in her bottle, she did better then taking it on an empty belly - and when we put her back on the liquid after the 24 hours, she did fine - she had her second ear infection at the beginning of October and was on amoxicillin and did fine with it - no reaction at all
It may just be a bug on top of the ear infection - try giving him the antibiotic when he has something already in his belly and if he's on Motrin, try switching to Tylenol - Motrin tends to be rough on the tummy - hope he's feeling well soon!!!!!!!!!
thanks everyone. i'm pretty sure he does have a bug because once he started puking he didn't stop and then started having diarrhea. i remember someone at work saying they had a similar 24 hour bug so it must be going around. so far this morning he kept his bottle down but i'm affraid to give him the ammox because i don't want to induce more vommiting. he is also very huggie ang clingy this morning. awake but doesn't want to play. like right now he isn't grabbing at the computer or desk at all, just sitting in my lap. i think i will call the dr office again.
call the doctor - that's a dead giveaway with Abby - if she's content just being held, something is wrong - hope Jacob is feeling better soon!!!
Oh - almost forgot - other thing our doctor's office told us - a lot of times, antibiotics can give little ones (even boys) a yeast infection - they suggested we give Abby yogurt - found a wonderful brand at Walmart called Yobaby - its a six pack - half vanilla and half banana and she LOVES it - she has never had a yeast infection and she's been on an antibiotic twice now
Good Luck! Hope lil Jacob feels better soon!!
I don't know what is taking that dr so long to call me back.
He was on ammoxicilian before and then he was on another antibiotic that I think was ammoxicilian and something else.
yeah, I'm not going to give him anymore.. I feel terrible. Like I tortured the lil'guy by giving him meds that are making him sick.
My daughter developed an allergic reaction the second time she was given Amoxicillin.
Poor little Jacob. Hope he feels better soon.
