Sleep question, and restless leg syndrome

by Kiwi Mum, Jul 01, 2004 12:00AM
OK,
As I am sure most of you know, I had the second D&C last Wednesday 23rd (1st one on the 11th of June). Bleeding has FINALLY stopped as of today. I just have this yellowish yolky discharge stuff. Could I be ovulating?
Anyway I am having the WORST time sleeping. I just lay awake most of the night, thinking and feeling kind of sad. I have tried almost everything, Tylenol PM, Simply Sleep (Tylenol PM with out the Tylenol). The Dr had given me vicodin and darvocet for pain after each D&C and I have some left but that isn't even working. I also sometimes get that nasty leg twitching feeling where I have to constantly move my legs. For those that read the post yesterday about having the big "O" before bed, I am not ready to go that route yet, kind of scared about having sex and orgasms because the bleeding has JUST stopped. I have a Dr apt on the July 12. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can start to get into a normal sleep pattern before the 12th and what I can do about the leg thing. I would rather not take any heavy duty pills because I do want to start trying again the Dr said after two cycles. I need to do something now because I am just dragging butt all day long. If you take medication how long does it stay in your system?

I have heard that the restless leg syndrome can sometimes be related to lack of potassium. So ask your doctor when you see him about that.

As far as a normal sleep pattern maybe try getting into a sleep routine. Try the Same thing every night to get your body ready for sleep, maybe a long hot bath or curl up with a book (And maybe to help with the sex drive try a Harlequin romance novel or something).  Whatever you do try to be consistent, about the same time every night begin your routine and end the routine in bed about the same time.  Also try not to nap during the day but if you must limit them to a small cat nap about 10-20 minutes.  Don't you just wish there was switch on the back of our neck that we could flip to turn our mind off? That way we wouldn't be thinking or feeling emotion when trying to sleep.

I have restless leg syndrome and it is very annoying.  It feels like growing pains like when you were a child.  I also get charlie horses in my legs.  My dr told me that it can be a lack of calcium.  Although I do have tons of calcium during the day so I am really not too sure what is causing it.

Good luck
