Spotting stopped but hearburn is killing me!

by momof32b, Dec 10, 2007 09:45AM
Just an update...my spotting stopped!  I'm 7 weeks today and as of last Thurs, no spotting.  Weird!  Does anybody have any suggestions on heartburn other than Rolaids or Tums??  I'm having some serious indigestion and heartburn issues (much like I've had in LATE pregnancy) and nothing seems to help.  I eat little meals, feel bloated, start belching then the heartburn hits.  I'm miserable!

This is what the OB handout I have says...

Indigestion:

Riopan

Tums

Axid

Tagamet

Gaviscon

Mylanta

Maalox

Pepcid AC

Zantac

Rolaids

Do not take Baking Soda or AlkaSeltzer

Thats excatly how it reads, even the do not take part.  I have found if I drink milk it cancels out the acid and I feel better fast.  Heartburn sucks, but there is a upside.  I read in a baby magazine lately that women who suffered whith heartburn during pregnancy had babies with more hair.  My mom had bad heartburn with my sister.  At delivery they told her they were delivering a rug!  One of the chemicals your body produces with heartburn also promotes hair growth in the womb.  Try to find a positve with a negative!  I hope this gives you some ideas, feel better soon!

I eat plain saltine crackers...it helps absorb the acid

A rug!  Hillarious!  My BFF had no heartburn with any of hers and they all came out looking like Elvis!  I'll give some of these a try and talk to my dr on Wed (first ob appt).  I'll give the crackers a try too.  Thanks!

Heartburn sucks and if you have it now it may stay with you.  Some days will be worse than others.  I agree with mom2b530 if I drink milk it helps a little.  The one thing that I think is a old wifes tale is the hair; I had alot of heartburn with my first 2 pregnancies and my girls were both very bald and didnt' get hair until they were around 2 years old!

I had the worst heartburn ever with dd.  It was so bad that I would wake up choking on stomach acid.  The only thing that helped was lots and lots of chocolate milk.  I drank it every day.  No lie -- dd came out with the ability to hold her head up on her own.  I attribute that to all the calcium!

I'll have to try the milk thing too.  I'm also burping like crazy!  I'm going to be a basket case if my whole 9 months is like this.

You know what else...dunno why is just dawned on me.  My doctor put me on protonics for the acid reflux.  Maybe next time your there you could ask your doctor about it or any other ideas they may have.  My doc told me it wouldn't stop it, but it would make it not as acidy.  I have a rare stomach disorder and I throw up consatantly.  Sometimes I throw up so much for so long I actually vomit blood.  Not just treaky blood, I mean blood.  (I know thats nasty- sorry)  I was starting to cause damage on the way up.. I brush constantly, but the acid has also started to affect my teeth as well.  Its really helped and it maybe something to look into... could make you a bit more comforable.
