Stuffy Nose

I am 5 weeks 1 day pregnant and I have a really hard time sleeping due to a stuffed up nose. It is usually worse at night (when I lie down) but today I have had a stuffy nose off and on all day. Is there anything besides regular saline solution that I can use? (I have tried saline solution and it doesn't help) I have a dr's appt next week and I will ask my dr then but I need relief now :)

At night try those nasal strips, that should really help open things up without the need for meds. Also, during the day try Ocean Mist. Consult with your pharmacist for safe OTC products for stuffiness. Even though sudafed is safe, I wouldn't use it for run of the mill stuffiness. I just suffer with mine, lol.

Thank you, I am going to ask the pharmacist at walmart tonight and see what they recommend.

Unfortunately, I stayed stuffed up almost all the way through my pregnancy. Was very weary about using any meds to clear it up though.

I actually got a link for a really good website...you can check out all meds and whether or not they are safe to take during pregnancy...http://www.safefetus.com/search.asp?SearchType=1&letter=s

according to this sudafed is a class C and not really safe to take during pregnancy...I am going to look into claratin and some breath rite strips...

Do NOT use the Walmart Brand.  They do not stick.  Breathe Right seemed to work the best out of the 3 brands I tried.  Also, if Sudafed does not muck you up too bad, you can use that.

Congratulations on the pregnancy.  I'm glad you finally got your positive result.  I hope it goes very smooth over the next hew months.

Yeah, most docs will allow sudafed if the need exists. In fact a lot of approved meds are a C, only a handful of meds on the market are actually a B. But I would still stay away from it for run of the mill stuffiness. I would only take a cold med if the stuffiness was impairing my ability to function effectively : )

I only plan on using it at night so that I can sleep.

I went to the pharmacy last night and the pharamacist said that I could use Equate Decongestant Nasal Spray 0.1% It contains xylometazoline hydrochloride, Nasal Solution USP. He said that the reason I can use this as opposed to others is that this one is NOT absorbed into the blood stream.

I used it last night and it worked wonders. I slept really well all night and am even still clear this morning.
