Super Worried

Ok so I don't know if I am just paranoid and a head case or if something is really wrong with Aspen. When she was like 2 weeks old I fell asleep with her resting on my chest a little while later I woke up suddenly because I could no longer feel/hear her breathing. I quickly picked her up and moved her a little bit and she woke up. Anyways I wrote it off as just being paranoid. A couple weeks ago I was taking a nap with her and it happened again and this time when I picked her up she was limp in my hands and after patting her face a couple times and jumping out of bed with her in my arms she woke up. Well since then I have slept with her every single night and check on her every 15 minutes during her naps. Last night though while we were sleeping I swear I kept thinking that she had stopped breathing and every time I would pick her up she would be limp in my hands and then eventually wake up. One time even I woke up to check on here and her eyes were part open and she was just staring at nothing and I picked her up and she was limp again and then started crying like she woke up. But it seems weird to me that she was sleeping with her eyes open. The rest of the night I didn't sleep just watched over her and at times it would seem like she wasn't even breathing her breathing was so shallow that her chest would barely move. So now I don't know if I am waking her up because I think she's not breathing but she is but just really quiet or if something is wrong. I'm freaking out I am so worried! I honestly keep crying I'm so worried. Plus I'm in a new state so I don't really have anyone to run to and show them and the soonest her new doctor can see her is on the 21 of September. I don't know what to do does anyone have any advice?

i don't know much about it, but what you describe sounds like it could possibly be infant apnea. there are different types, and it may not be the typical snoring/snorting kind of apnea you think of in adults. how long does she go without breathing? from what i read, it's considered apnea in infants if the pause is 20 seconds or more (10 seconds in adults).

i would call the new pediatrician anyways. if Aspen were sick, would she have to wait until sept 21? i would hope not! (and if so, then get a new ped). another option would be to get an apnea monitor- i know most baby stores sell them now. at least you would have peace of mind and be able to sleep. it would also help you determine if she really isn't breathing or if it only appears to be that way.

I have a baby nephew that sleeps with his eyes partially open. The first time he was with me while napping and I checked on him, I FREAKED out. Scared me to death. So thats one thing I can tell you, is that some babies do sleep like this.
Does her breathing seem shallow when awake? Sometimes when I check on Jameson, I have to really look for a few seconds to see his little chest rising and falling.
It sounds like its possible that the limpness you describe is just because she is asleep. You pick her up because you think she isn't breathing, she feels limp cuz shes asleep. Then it wakes her up and she cries?
I am so sorry for your stress about this. I hope everything is okay!

I think it's paranoid. I think that when you think when you pick her up she's limp because she's still asleep and then wakes up when she is startled. She's just a peanut and I'm sure her breathing is low and almost undetectable. I don't want to down play it if you truly think there is something wrong, but she's probably just a peaceful sleeper :)

Ashtny has always slept with his eyes partly open, but my mom said I used to as well. Ashtyn had apnea and that sounds a lot like him, but he turned blue when he stopped breathing. The main thing to look for is a color change in their face, especially around their mouth.
