Sushi for the pregnant?

Hey guys, quick question...wanted to take the little lady out to dinner for her birthday, and she loves sushi.  She is about 24 weeks along - she's allowed to eat sushi isn't she?  Wanna kind of surprise her so I don't want to ask...

Nope no sushi.

No deli meat and no soft cheeses (those made with unpastuerized milk) either. If you can cut it with a butter knife, then forgo it. (Cream cheese is okay though).

i personally would call her OB's office and ask them...let them know it's a surprise and maybe have them call your cell back if needed.
but not all doctors recomend the same things.

There's so much on the subject, but they say if its cooked its ok.  Rolls that don't contain raw fish are good.  I love sushi but I know I have to limit it.  I stayed away from the raw stuff, I did have 2 pieces of smoked salmon although I shouldn't have.  I know in the UK they say it's ok for pregnant women to eat sushi. They have to have fish that was flash frozen, which apparently kills bacteria.  I'm not so sure what the US laws are with that but my dr says no to any raw or undercooked stuff.

Any cooked sushi is fine but stay away from smoked.  But you could do california roll or shrimp or tempura or spider roll that just has the cooked crab in it.  YUM!  I ate sushi while pg and just made sure it was cooked.
