Swelling badly

Swelling badly

How normal is it to swell?   I got out of the hospital today and felt great. I went and got my medicine at the store and got some pictures developed. Well shortly afterwards when I got home I noticed one of my feet was feeling weird. So I looked at my feet and I have no ankles or feet really. They are so swollen they look like they have been broke in 5 different places. I called L&D and they said to come in and be seen, but I called my actual doctors cell and he said it's common and if it's still going on tomorrow to call him. I'm going to sleep tonight with my feet propped up and I took some motrin so i hope that helps. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen? I don't want to get a blood clot of something bad.

i swelled so bad my ankles were the size of my thighs and i literally had pillows on the top of my feet that swooshed from side to side when i walked.  i was still in the hospitol so i dont recall what they said or did.  you have a number of health issues so i dont know what to tell you other than i would guess your dr is one to listen to.  maybe you will get lucky and sweat it out over the next few nights, i lost 30 pounds in water in several days!

I had virtually no swelling with either baby till after they were born.  Seriously could not wear the slippers I packed after my last one, and could ahrdly cram my feet into my shoes either time when we were ready to go home.  It will go down in a few days.  You have so much fluid still, you will also swaet a ton to get rid of it.  I would just check back in with your Dr., but sounds totally normal.  They never do warn you about all of this...

Oh yes - I totally understand - before I had DD, my feet were so beautiful, I was actually proud that, besides my nose (thank God), it was the only other thing that DIDN'T swell... Yeah, well, after DD, when I got home, for about a week - maybe two - I had elephant trunk ankle and feet!  I know it sounds dumb, but drink plenty of water (seems like you'd want to do the opposite) - drinking lots of water actually helps flush the fluid and reduce swelling... Ah, the joys of motherhood!!!

The swelling actually gets worse after delivery for a while.  Drink good amounts of water, rest with your feet up as much as possible.

I had a c-section and a week later out of no where I had balloon feet.  My dad thought something was wrong with me they were so funny looking.  They looked like those surgical gloves blown up.  I used my glider rocker's oddoman and just sat with my feet up for a few days.  It took about a week but they went down.  They never hurt but they sure were huge.

My feet and ankles were very swollen at the end of my pregnancy with my dd.  Once I had her they became way more swollen. In fact, none of my shoes fit me I had to go out and buy a pair of flip flops that were 2 sizes too big just to fit around the swelling!  My dr told me immediately after the c section that it''s normal for them to swell even larger than they were before and can take up to 2 weeks to go down.  Unfortunately mine took the entire 2 weeks until my feet, ankles and legs were back to normal. Hang in there!!

I swelled so bad during my pregnancy, I didn't know it could get worse afterwards!  But yes, you will swell afterwards and it will stay like that for about 2 weeks, then you will pretty much pee it all away.  My understanding is that it is worse for c-section deliveries... but I had it bad with both DD#2 and Nadezdha.  I finally found that I didn't have "Cankles" anymore somewhere around day 10 or 12.

Oh gosh!  And here I was looking forward to getting rid of my swelling.  I don't remember swelling after my DD's birth, but then I've already proven I don't remember much of anything from that time period.  Darn that PPD!!!
