by lisa128, Jan 24, 2007 12:00AM
Hello ladies.. I am in week 40 and very sad that there is no baby yet. I am due in 3 days!! I have tons of contractions but ends there. Doc said I cold be induced but there might be a small chance of a c-section if it doesn't work. I am PETRIFIED of a c-section. Help what would you ladies do have you ever been in this boat before? I go to the doc again today at 9:50 and he may bring it up to me again and I am lost on what to do.

Ten years ago, with my first, I was induced (I had gestational diabetes) and ended up with a c-section because of failure to progress.  It really wasn't bad, imo.  And I was actually happy when my doctor told me I would be having another c-section this time.  Yes, I have nothing to compare it to, but I really am ok with it.

If you feel that strongly against having a c-section, talk to your doctor--if the chance of not having a c-section is much greater by waiting for your body to go into labor on its own, then wait.

5 years ago I had an induction and then an emergency c-section.  It scared the $#%% out of me.  I NEVER want to do it again. I truely believe that the experience would have been much better had I known about the possibility ahead of time and if my DH was aloud to be there.  Due to the "emergency" part everything was so rush, rush they would not let him into the room.  Luckily (for me), I can have a VBAC.  Statistically, I have read that 1/3 of all VBAC go into C-Section anyway.  At least I am ready come April it'll be a breeze.  I am such a wuss though that when I read up on sterilization agter the baby is born I told my husband that if I can not do it when this baby is born, he will be the one getting fixed (He is kind enough to go with me on it).

I was induced both times, with PIT and no epidural--no C-section delivered both naturally--I am 5' 2" and hab babies over 8 1/2 lbs both times.--Good luck if you are not that uncomfortable try and wait it out you may go naturally into labor--but that is no gurantee you still won't need a C.

Good Luck your little bundle of joy will be here soon.

Thank you for your comments. This is my foyrth and all were vaginal deliveries. The chances of me needing a c are very low my doc said. However the small chance of needing one with an inducement still scares me. I guess I have a lot to thin about. Thank you ladies. I am trying Pineapple someone said pineapple helps bring on labor. We will see.

I ended up having a c-section with my first DS for failure to progress.  It took me ALL DAY to get to 6cm then I just stopped.  I guess my pelvis is too narrow to let the baby go through.  Anyway I was relieved (sorta) when the dr told me I would be going for a section.  I was scared too though.  With my 1st baby I didnt know what to expect.  Now I am scheduling this one.  I was in terrible pain the first go around and am not looking forward to that again but, I dont have any other options.  I am hoping this one isnt as painful since I know what to do and what not to do.  AS a previous poster said, I too was up and doing things a week after I got home.  It takes time but you def. DO NOT WANT TO OVERDO it because you can get adhesions and I guess those are pretty darn painful!  I slowly got back into my routine of doing things around the house.  But sections are not all that bad.  If it were me, I would opt for being induced and take the chance of having a c-section.  You are at 40 weeks dont you want to see your little one??

To what you feel is right.  But I have had both vaginal and c-section deliveries.  Thinking about surgery is scary but remember even if you go into labor on your own it doesn't mean you won't end up with a c-section.
Good luck!

Speak up! Be sure to let the doctor know what you wish! If you have a good doctor s/he will do everything in his/her power to let you deliver the way you want -- and that is the way it should be. They will intervene if they feel it is going to harm you or the baby.

I was induced with my 1st due to high blood pressure, and ended up having an emergency c-section due to not progressing fast enough also. It was an experience i tell ya, i wasn't prepared b/c i really and truely thought i would never need a c-section so never read up on it, my husband was aloud in with me, which greatly helped. The surgery wasn't bad, was deathly scared but got through it, what killed me was the first time trying to get up, just please remember u can't jump right up, i tried and fell right to the floor. It hurts recovering, but doesn't take too long. Maybe u won't have to have a c-section. If the dr brings up the fact that you still haven't went into labor today talk to him about the chances of having a c-section if induced, and if you really want to get this over with go ahead and go for it, if not, in a week if you haven't went into labor yet, he may decide to go ahead and induce u anyways...

Dude, C-Section is a breeze compared to the almost 3 hours of pushing I had.  It really is not that bad at all.  Recovery time is longer but I at least had no tearing down below if you know what I mean.  I may be different from others, but I was up walking around after 1 week.  Don't overdo it, but the more you try to walk around the faster the healing time.  I wouldn't fret about it.  It is funny that prior to labor we worry so much about these things and afterwards you barely think about it at all.  The next worry is how to deal with the lack of sleep--that is way more difficult!!

It's up to you. You could wait and still end up needing a C-section. The important thing is that you go to the hospital and you and the baby come home healthy. I'm not sure what I'd do in your situation.

I was induced with my DD on her EDD, I was only a fingertip dilated and I almost got a c-section (I was dilating really slwoly and by 5pm after 11 hours of induction wih my water broken at 6am, I was only a 5-6cm) so the doc told me that if I wasn't ready to push by 10pm, we would have to think about something else (meaning a c-section) fortunatly when he came back I was fully dilated and ready to push, it only took 19min to push her out.
I would not be induced again just because it was more convenient then, I would wait until the baby is ready.
The chances of a successful induction varies greatly depending how much you are dilated, so if you are not all all, I would suggest to wait a little bit more, I know it's hard but you'r baby will be here sooner than later

if this is your 4th baby i very much doubt it will end in a c-section as you already no your pelvis is big enough, you already no you dialate. your ob has to tell you there is a risk of a c-section because its possible with every pregnancy and birth.
like i said usually failed inductions are the ones of mothers with first time babies and there pelvis is small for example hence the head not coming down to dilate the cervix but like i said you have had vaginal births befor.
i have 2 girls and was induced both times i wouldent have it any other way its perfect to get up in the morning and say well i will be holding my bundle of joy by tonight.
i am also a midwife and trust me there is just about as much risk with you having an induction as opposed to a natural delivery all labours can end in a c-section just go for it girl get induced the longer you cook the baby the bigger it gets actually increasing your chance for a c-section.
would you beleive i am in australia and the ceaser percentage is 22% and in america its nearly 70% whys this gotta ask yourself the question.
if your ob says oh lets do a ceaser say no unless its absolutly neccessary to your or the babies health.
goodluck i hope some of this helped please no the risks are there either way.god this took me forever to write so i hope it made you feel a little better.

sorry I didn't read the whole thread, I didn't see it was your 4th baby (I thought it was your first)
I agree with the previous poster, your body knows how to dilate and do the whole childbirth thing, I'm pretty sure you will have no problem with a normal delivery and it probably be fast.
Then go for it, maybe you can ask your doc to strip your membrane and wait a couple of days, if it doesn't work, ask to be induced (you're a professional, I'm sure it wouldn't take much more than just breaking your water)
And I also agree, the doctor has to tell you the risks of a c-section but like any birth, it's always a risk even if you go into labor naturally.
