TSH Levels Low and T3 high..........Help

TSH Levels Low and T3 high..........Help

Hey ladies about 3wks ago I found out that I had Hyperthyroid...... but it wasn't for sure because my TSH levels were high and my T3 was normal, so I was sent to the perinatologist and she told me that she didn't want to put me on any meds until I have another blood work. So I had another blood work last week Tuesday, I call the office this afternoon to find out what were the results and they tell me NOW that my TSH is low and my T3 is High. I want to know what does this mean? another thing is that I'm scared because so many weeks have gone by and I have not been but on meds yet. I'm just really freaking out because I don't know if letting all these weeks go by without me taking some sort of meds could be doing harm to the babies please help me ladies please. Has anyone gone through this BTW I have an appointment with the perinatologist on Friday. Also since I found out about the whole hyperthyroid threat my heart feels like if it's going to race out of my chest I get it everyday and it is really annoying me, I know that is one of the symptoms for thyroid. Please give me some comments to calm me down!!!!!! Thank you ladies in advance

I am Hypothyroid and unfortunately don't know much about the "other side" but I know that Hyperthyroidism is more difficult to treat.
Some people I have known in the past with Hyperthyroidism have had their thyroid removed and are then treated for Hypothyroidism. I think they try other things before resorting to surgery but the biggest worry with Hyperthyroidism is the racing heart........I'm sorry I can't help you much more with your concerns, perhaps you should visit the thyroid forum within medhelp, there are some very helpful posters on there who have answered questions for me in the past.
Good Luck with your appointment.

How far along are you?

As a rule in Hyperthyroid, the results for TSH look like <0.04 or something along those lines which means that you are Hyperthyroid.  T3 is a thyroid hormone and with it being high they should have also done a Free T4 and T4 test, as well as preferably a Free T3.  There are different forms of Hyperthyroid as well.  The major concern is that the drugs to treat it are toxic, the best for pregnancy being PTU.

Left untreated hyperthyroid can cause miscarriage, low intelligence in the babies, and other complications.  Take a good prenatal vitamin, and pick up some Expecta (this is over the counter) and good for the baby.  Make sure your Perinotologist (high risk OBGYN) is familiar and well versed in hyperthyroid.  And communicate often with him/her.

I am about 16wks 1day, they also did a T4 is I guess it's normal because when I called for the results she just told me that my TSH was low and that my T3 was high so I assume T4 is ok, I guess I should've asked either way.  So could this mean that the babies could be in danger? uuuhhh, I'm so scared I want Friday to hurry up and get here so I can talk to the perinatologist, I hope this appointment is better that the 1st one I had with her. I'll keep you updated

i just wanted to tell you when i was pregnant with my son i went into graves disease. i was very sick. i couldn't even walk up steps because i literally could not breathe. just taking a walk would do me in.my heart rate was like 160 if i walked into another room. anyway i had to go on PTU pretty much for my whole pregnancy.  the good news is that my son is a HEALTHY 2 1/2 year old. at birth his thyroid levels were low because the ptu crosses the placenta but 2 weeks later his levels were normal. i was really scared about starting the ptu but i really didn't have a choice.

I lost the post and spent as much of my free time yesterday trying to find it.  When you go in Friday ask about the Free T3/Free T4, and how often your doctor has dealt with Hyperthyroid.  Without knowing the basis for your Hyper it could be difficult to treat.  There is also a Thyroid Anti-body that they can test for as well, and that will help narrow down the type/reason of Hyperthyroid you have.

Are you feeling the baby move around yet?  Have you had ultrasounds done?  What prenatal are you taking and don't forget to pick up the Expecta.  I went for a long time without my thyroid being under control, up till I had a High Risk OB actually.  Then they started managing things, and Lilith is healthy.  Just make sure you write down all your questions and cover them with your doctor (get used to doing this, pregnancy and children cause so many questions!)

I want to tell you to PLEASE get in there and talk with your doc NOW... I went in for my 16 week check up and i do have Thyroid Cancer, My levels were over 10.66 so very high I told my Endo several times about how i felt and she was uneducated and unconcerned. I just got home from the Hospital Tuesday, I was induced and had my baby. The baby had passed a week or two early and I can almost say without doubt it was becasue of my THS levels being out of control. Please please please don't sit on this, demand you be heard and want something done!!! Let me know!!!! Low or high levels can effect your baby!!!!

I have been feeling the babies move since last week. There not kicks yet, it's more like poking. tomorrow I go and see the perinatologist and I assume that they are going to perform an ultrasound......I hope. Regarding my prenatal vitamins I'm taking Obtrex.

Tazz, get yourself the Expecta (it's over the counter and rather inexpensive).  When you talk to your perinatologist let me know how things go.  Don't take Tapazole if they try to tell you to.  It is highly toxic to your babies, far more so than PTU.  They should be very well versed in thyroid issues, but some don't understand them.  With high levels you should have them checked every 2 weeks or there about as well, especially with twins.
