Taking Prenatal Vitamins

Is taking prenatal vitamins bad while trying to concieve (conceive)? The nurse from the gno told me i shouldnt take them if i wasn't pregnant so she gave me follic acid instead..  Does anyone else knows otherwise?

prenatal vitamins are all I ever took. I even took them for a whole year before I got pregnant. I've never taken folic acid on its own.
but I know some girls who do.

I was told when I started trying to go right out and get prenatels and to make sure they have folic acid and iron.

I took prenatals with folic acid and iron for almost a year.  The doc said if trying to concieve (conceive), I should go ahead and take them.

So long as your prenatal includes a large amount of folic acid, I would say stick with your prenatals. My midwife and doctor both had me start taking prenatals when I knew I was going to start ttc. After a couple of months, I got lazy and quit taking them, but I started back up the month before I conceived. Best wishes!

Both my RE and ob/gyn recommended I take prenatals while ttc.  Not sure why, but they said it increased my chances and if not, didn't hurt anything and gave me what I would need sooner if I did get pg...

I got them by Rx for 2 years while ttc.

She probably meant that the folic acid was the most important part and that if you weren't going to take a prenatal vitamin before getting pregnant, you should at the very least take folic acid while trying to conceive.  It's just fine to take prenatals when trying to conceive.

My doctor put me on them as soon as I told him I was going to start trying to get pregnant.  I also drank a lot of orange juice for folic acid.
