I was told the same thing.  I think it is the anacepamedifin (sorry about the spelling) that is safe.  I sure ibuprofin has a risk for birth defects.

i am holding my healthy baby girl as i type this.  i had severe back pain entire preg.  dr prescribed tylenol #3 (coedine)  I took max dose (8 tablets) of tylenol everyday.  only thing my dr would let me take for pain.  who knows what it did to MY STOMACH, but baby is fine!

this is true.  Tylenol (acetominophen) is the only safe pain reliever suggested by OB/GYNs.  Hope this helps.

ibuprofen can cause bleeding which is why they tell you to stay away.

Yes Tylenol is the only "safe" thing to take during pregnancy, and they have to have the market cornered on everything else because my OB said that I can take anything Tylenol even for colds.  As far as the max dose for T3, I don't know.  I am on vicodine (after a week on darvocet) and I take a max pof 4,000mg daily after my recent ovarian surgery.

The meds in tylenol cannot cross the placenta and enter the baby's blood stream, that is why they are safe.

I'm in NS, where are you?

To: DOES cross placental barrier, but still safe
@anxiousmomtobe

Acetaminophen does cross the placental barrier.

See this article on the Tylenol website, search for "placental":

That said, most people seem to think it's safe.
