I'm pretty sure you have to have a job to file income taxes.. because you need a W2 and how can you have a w2 without an employer..  but if the father hasn't supported the child at least 6 months out of the year then he can not claim him either..

Whomever provides financial support for him claims him. I would have to say that if you claim him and receive money, it should go to your mother since she puts the roof over your head.

I do not believe that Keith should be able to claim him because he doesn't provide more than 50% of his support.

alright thanks. he in no way contributes 50% child support doesnt even cover half of dominics daycare expenses alone. we have to see tomorrow. my mom seems to think because i receive money for his daycare and financial aid i need to file taxes but i didnt think i did cuz i dont have a job. so but its good to know that he shouldnt be able to claim him either. thanks laides

Kim,  call the IRS on this one.  I forget all the specifics,  but if Dominic's father carries health care for him or other benefits,  it may be that he has to claim him.

Since you aren't earning an income,  it won't benefit you to claim him anyway.

Call the IRS.

i think your mom might be able to claim him since you guys are technically both her dependents since she provides income for both of you : )

My mom claimed my daughter when I lived with her, I did have a job but it made more sense for her to claim her since we lived with her. Good luck!
