Teething question :( HELP!

by newbie2b, Oct 24, 2007 09:57AM
Hi all. I posted the other day about the baby growing a tooth in the back.  Maybe it's not a molar but I think maybe it's one behind the fang tooth.  It's hard to say because her gums are so small and she doesnt let me look.
Anyway, yesterday was a really really bad teething day. Everything went into her mouth.  She was screaming, just to scream. I'm not sure if that was her vocalizing or because it was bugging her.   I bought some Oragel but it didnt seem to work and I didnt want to keep using it. I gave her a frozen washcloth, it worked for a little while.  I let some water go into the pacifier and froze that, that worked for a little while.  I gave her a frozen toy, that worked for a little while. But all in all, it seemed that it made her more agitated. After all the frozen stuff she was crying alot. She hardly cries anymore.  I gave her her bottle early and tried to put her to bed.
What else can I do to soothe her? Someone mentioned Humpreys to me?  What is that?  HELP!

I always used Hylands teething tablets and that seemed to help the most. Oragel never worked for me either.

i always used orajel and that seemed to help edward but i've heard good things about teething tablets also. there's a couple different kinds. edward started teething around 4 months but didn't ever get an actual tooth until 7 months, so it was a little rough at times. my ped said a combo of orajel and infants advil or motrin was best as advil/motrin is more for pain than tylenol. i never like loading him up on medication though, so i did orajel during the day and only gave him alittle infants advil/motrin if nap time and bedtime were difficult. he didn't like the frozen teethers either. he must not have liked holding cold things or something cus he kept throwing them back at me. haha.

good luck. i know its rough.

Eva is doing the same thing with everything going into the mouth and she loves those frozen things but when they thaw she gets really mad and starts crying which she never does.  I cant take it from her because then she throws a fit.  She is a very greedy baby.  Dont take her toys.

So I have to bribe her with another frozen object to get the thawed one that is annoying her out of her hand.

It is so bad that I banned the frozen things.  NO MORE!  It gets her too mad.  I checked and nothing yet on the tooth front and she does not seem to be in pain.  Just more of a feel good thing with the biting of the toys, fingers, clothes, etc.

Her pointer fingers on both of her hands are raw from her chewing on them.

For molars and bicuspids, give some motrin or tylenol. Those are especially painful and oftentimes the cold (BTW, nothing frozen, can damage the gums, only use refrigerator) stuff doesn't help back there. I also make sure to give my kids yogurt or something cool and soothing. I also love the teething tablets, they made a world of difference with my middle son.

I used motrin for my boys, it helps with the swelling and pain.  Tablets and gels never worked for me, but each kiddo is different.  I would use a damp cloth and place it in the fridge for a minute or two, or just use cold water.

just out of curiosity, which tablets did you find helpful and use most often? there are a few different brands and i'd like to try them with edward now that he is getting a tooth every time i turn around. thanks!

Ok, so, how do I give her these tablet things?  She's to little for me to actually give her the tablets.  Should I smash it up?  Poor little baby. She was crying and nothing I did helped.  I felt like crying alont with her. It's never been this bad. And you cant get her hands out of her mouth for a second.

They dissolve on contact with saliva, no chewing, no crushing ; ) They are Hyland Brand, sold at Kroger stores (all of their brands) and I believe even Wal-Mart sells them.

Thank You :) There isnt a Walmart by me (I know big surprise right..lol ) and i've never heard of a Kroger, but I'll find it one way or another.

Kroger owns Fred Meyer, Ralphs, and a bunch more. If you go to Kroger.com they should have a list of affiliate stores. Also, I believe you can go to Hylands web site and find a store that carries them near you.

Try a naturopathy type store. Those are the only types of stores that sell hyland's in Toronto.

Hyland's worked for us.  Orajel is washed off by saliva before it can actually work.  They sell Hyland's at Walmart (where do we have walmart around here???)  Good luck!

No walmart by us.  :( it stinks. There are actually people who protest and some politicians get involved whenever Walmart atempts to look for real estate in the NY boroughs.  Crazy huh? We need one though.

My daughter is going thru it too.  She was born May 9th and has 4 bottom teeth already
and one white spot on the top front, and this one seems to be REALLY bothering her.
I let her chew on these rubber diving sticks that are for the swimming pool and she LOVES them,
but even that doesnt seem to be working for this top tooth.  I feel so bad for her because they
are coming in so fast and one right after the other.  My sister-in-law got one of those mesh
baby food little bag things and put a carrot in and her son just chewed and chewed on that
carrot.

Is 11 weeks too early to teeth???  I noticed Ayden is really cranky lately and eating his hands.  He also has a buildup of saliva.

its very possible. edward started to teethe verrry early. chewed on his hands most of the time and drooled buckets. it began around 3/4 months and constinued until he got his first tooth...at 7 months. so its quite possible that your little guy will have teething symptoms starting now but no teeth for a while.
