Teething

My son is 1 year and 1 month old and still has no teeth. He seems to be ready to have his teeth come out but nothing yet. Is this normal or should i worry and see a specialist ??

I wouldn't say that is normal in the least bit, most children of that age have almost all of their teeth excluding some molars of course. What does his pediatrician say?

His pediatrician said that children can "begin to teeth" at the age of 1yr 2months latest, however if later than that, he should be looked at for a possible procedure to cut the outer layer in order for the teeth to break through(in other words help the teeth to break through). I was wondering if there are other parents that might have had a similar experience whereas they can share what they had experienced.

my oldest dd didn't cut her first tooth until she was  over 14 months old.  i'll have to check in her baby book to see how fast they came in after that...  right now she is 5 1/2 and her teeth are beautiful!!!

Thanks a lot for the information...it is definitely a relief to hear that. I know our doctor told us not to worry, however, it is always a lot more comforting to hear good news from other parents....

Wow, I'm sorry, I guess I didn't give a very educated answer.

Apparently my first teeth just did not want to come through either and by 13 months, as I was told, my gums were cut to set those teeth free. I have no memory...It wasn`t considered totally unnormal back then but odd enough to intervene. Turned out a bit later that I had rickets like many others in my family and the tooth and bone development was just very delayed. In our case there were underlying vitamin D and calcium absorption problems and actually my son`s baby teeth were extremely soft. So once your son`s teeth do appear, maybe keep an eye on that whole calcium issue.
