Theme Parks and such...

Hi, I'm ttc #1 with not much luck it seems, but my husband and I are going to Florida in December and he has never been there before, so we plan to go to many of the theme parks like DisneyWorld and Universal Studios.  My question is this: At what point in your pregnancy would it be unsafe to go on rides.  I doubt I would do roller coasters cause they scare me, but like the other kinds or rides and stuff.  Any thoughts?  I don't know if age makes a difference, but I'm 21.  Thanks!

Im not to sure on theme park rides etc. But with my first ( I was 24) I ice skated up until I was about 8 weeks pregnant doing the same as I had always done. With my second I skated up until I was 14weeks pregnant but was doing all the jumps I had been two year before that. My doctor said it was ok because it was something I had always been doing it wasnt like I was just taking it up. This time I stopped training at about 7wks as with having two young ones ( 6 and 4yrs) and me being older I was finding it harder. I was going to coach for as long as I could but have stopped that due to a slight bleed I had at 8 weeks. If it was me I dont think I would do it. Check with your doctor.

Good luck

The problem with rides is that the gravity can pull the umbilical cord and cause it to make a tear in the placenta. I wouldn't do it if I were you. Alot of the rides in Orlando are illusional, so I would stick with those!! Good Luck and have fun!! Shannon

You should try to avoid them, I think.  I wondered the same thing myself, and found recently when I went to a theme park, amongst all the 'warnings' posted on the rides, pregnancy was on the lists of no-nos.  Sorry.

Hi, thanks for you input (and everyone elses).  I've been to Universal (both parks) Animal Kingdom, and Sea World, and I know what kinds or rides they have, but I'm wondering which ones would be the safe ones.  I would steer way clear of anything that would be scary to me, because I don't think it would be healthy just for the fact that I would be scared to death anyway!  But for instance, there are a few rides that have like dips and drops, but they aren't fast moving or anything, and I wondered about those.  (Like the spiderman or king kong rides at universal for example.)  Also, where did you acquire the information about what rides pregnant women can go on?  Thanks!

At universal they have many rides that a pregnant woman can also go on. They arent exactly rides. You can look at the brochure and it will indicate which ones will accomadate a pregnant woman. I would say very mild rides that arent to "jerky" would be ok. I went to Cedar POint after just finding out I was pregnant with my first son. I stayed away from all the roller coasters but I did ride the milder rides. If you question the ride the best thing is to go with your gut feeling and stay away from it....There is still fun to be had at disney world and universal even if you are pregnant. I have been to all the disney parks several times in the past few years and could help you if you had questions....

WHen I went there a few years back the information was on the map that they hand out to you. No special request or anything. I would say as long as it isnt extremly fast and doesnt have sharp turns it should be ok. Your baby is well protected from most things. To much force though could possibly do damage as with very fast or jerky rides. Also you have to pay attention to where the restraints are on your body. I wouldnt go on anything that goes across your tummy....I hope this helps. Have fun....

Just FYI, I was disappointed to see that King Kong is no longer there! I was there in June. Anyway, there are signs in front of every ride that has a warning if it isn't safe for a pg woman. DH and I were TTC in Orlando, and I even made the comment, I am glad I am not pg yet!! LOL It would be a waste of money!! I read about why you're not supposed to do the rides and as I said before, it is due to the "pulls". The biggest risk is the pulling of the umbilical cord, not so much the bars or lap harnesses in early pregnancy. Good Luck and have fun! Shannon
