This is a dumb question, but I'm fairly new to this

Hello, I am fairly new to all this and I have a question. Can someone help me with the abbreviations you use?  I've figured some out, but there are some that I can't. I appreciate it. Also, good luck to all you out there TTC (see I know that one) who have suffered MC, or are pregnant now. May God bless you and your's. I had a miscarriage in 11/05. Got pregnant again beginning of 06 that pregnancy ended because my uterus sits to high and the top of my uterus was right there at the opening of my falopian tube so when my fetus came down it got caught between my uterus and my tube which resulted in me having major surgery. My surgery was 5 wks ago this past Tuesday and I'm still healing up it's been a rough time. I desire all your prayers and if any of you have any words of encouragement I'll be most greatful. Correction, I mean when my egg dropped. One more thing. I am not sure how to calculate how many days are in my cycle. I usually start on the 8th of every month and I go 5-7 days so I don't know if it's a 28 or 30 day cycle. I know I must sound stupid to some of you but I grew up in an atmosphere you didn't talk bout this stuff and didn't ask no questions. Thanks again

HPT= Home pregnancy test
AF= Aunt Flow (period)
CD= Cycle Day
DPO= Days past Ovulation
O= Ovulation
POAS= Pee on a stick
DH= Dear husband
DD= Dear daughter
Ds= Dear son
M/C= Miscarriage
FMU= First morning Urine
LMP= Last menstrual period
U/S= ultrasound
OPK= Ovulation predictor kit
BCP= Birth control pill

your cycle starts with the first day of your period.  So if you started bleeding today, this would be CD1.  You count your days until you start to bleed again.  FOR EXAMPLE  my lmp (last menstral period) is 3/28.  I normally have 34 day cycles so i expect my next period on 4/30.  You usually ovulate about 14 days before your period.. so my ovulation day should be tomorrow.

Hi Sorry to hear about your loss. I lost twins 2years ago at 5 1/2 months it was a hard time but it will get easier. my thoughts are with you.

Els_24 - Thx for the warm wishes. I too am sorry to hear bout your loss. I don't know why it's so hard for some women to conceive when it's all they ever wanted. Not only that but once they do they end up going thru the heartache of loss.

Ladies I really pray that you all are blessed. This site has helped me with my broken heart. I've read the posts for a while and I've cried with each of you over your losses.

The best time would be the four days before you ovulate. It is best to have the sperm waiting for the egg. Sperm live 72 hours and eggs only live 24. This is why you are most fertile 1 to 2 days before you ovulate.

OK i have a question about the abbreviations as well... what does D&C mean?? i am sure its common sense but right now i don't have any LOL could someone let me know

D&C stands for  dilatation and curettage it's the procedure used on women that have miscarriages. Basically they dilate the cervix and scrape the uterine wall. Not all doctors do it. My drs didn't perform one on me they said sometimes its best to let it take care of itself. I had also passed everything according to ultra sound. Hope this helps.

Took me a while with the abbreviations also :) It is especially dosconcerting since where I live "TTC" is the abbreviation for the mass transit system :)
