Thrush won't go away.... Question for moms with babies who have had thrush!

Thrush won't go away.... Question for moms with babies who have had thrush!

Hi my 9 month old DS has thrush. He has had it for a little over 2 weeks. His ped. precribed Oral Nystatin and I use ti 4 times a day after a feeding. I use a Q-tip and put it all over his mouth on the affected area. I also boil his bottles and nipples with every use. It doesn't seem to be getting better. Now he is starting to not want his bottle because it hurts to suck. What else can I do to get rid of this thrush. His doctor said it may take awhile for it to go away and he wants to see him if it hasn't gone away next week. But in the meantime what is your experience with thrush? What medication works? And is there anything else I can do? Thanks ladies.

both my babies have had thrush, and both have been perscribed nystatin, and i think both times its been for 6 weeks, i think i eventually stopped giving it to them around 4 weeks, but i would be concerned if it wasnt getting any better, especially if he is having trouble eating, im not an expert on the subject, but in my experience it began to go away, or at least get better in a week or so, i would call your doctor to make sure he doesnt need something else besides nystatin, and see if it should be getting better by now

My DD had thrush for 2 months when she was 2 1/2 mos old. We used nystatin as well and it just wasn't working fast enough. Finally our dr. told us to put 1 mil on ea side of her cheeks and also 1 mil for her to swallow. We did this and it eventually worked.

oh hes nine months right? ive never done this with the thrush situation because the girls went away pretty quickly, but he is probably putting the same toys in his mouth over and over again, you may want to clean the surfaces of all his toys, ive done this periodically just to reduce the germs they come into contact with, i use the clorox any surface cleaner thats safe for babies,

i was going to suggest what taysmommy said. you may want to run all the toys that you can put in the dishwasher every nite and put whatever other soft toys you can in the washing machine. it may help. but i would def make an appointment with the dr. for next week anyway, whether its getting better or not, just so he/she can see first hand. good luck and i hope your little munchkin feels better soon!

Vinegar is nasty but it will kill the thrush, you could put it on the bottles, rub in his mouth, toys etc. Genitian Violet I think you can still get it at walgreens it will dye everything purple but it helps. You can also use vinegar in the laundry because of slobber and stuff on the clothes.

Yes he is 9 months old.....THANKS so much ladies. thats great advice I haven't even though about the toys. I do usually wash his toys but I need to do it again now and do a deeper cleaning I guess.
Stephanie, is the Genitian Violet over-the- counter? Is it safe?

Yes it is over the counter, it is safe, the biggest downside is that it is very purple so I would suggest old clothes or a bib because my dd seemed to slobber more. I would just call your local walgreens and see if they still carry it because it has been about three years since I bought it.

My mother-in-law fed our baby yogurt to rid her of thrush...it adds the good bacteria back to them

Oh yes I forgot about the yogurt, it is wonderful!!!!! When my ds had thrush all I did was plain yogurt and vinegar. We got rid of it fast.
