Thyroid meds.

I am almost 8 weeks pregnant and i have been taking med. for hypothyroidism for the last 3 years.  When do dr. usually ask for a tsh test to check the function of the thyroid to see if the meds. need to be adjusted.  The dr. knows im hypo but hasnt asked for it to be checked again....is it not time yet?

You need to go to an endo dr because the the OB does not check for T3 or T4 or free T4 they only check for TSH.  It is very important to do this every three to four weeks.  My TSH was fine according to my Dr. and then I went to an endo. dr. and he said it was off.  8 weeks is not to soon to test!!

I would ask him to check you every couple weeks.
You should have had it checked already.
You will probably have to ask him to do it.
He may be assuming that you have an endocronologist taking care of it.

An OBGYN who knows their patient is on Thyroid medications has a duty to the mother and unborn baby to test thyroid levels, all of them at least initially, because of the issues associated with miscarriage and fetal development.

Yes Mandy you should have your levels checked ASAP, remember to have him check T3, T4, Free T3 and Free T4, as well as TSH.

Also you might find that during your pregnancy your "thyroid issue" fixes itself, remember this is only temporary!  And it is extremely important to stay on your medications and to keep your levels in the right place to both you and your baby.
