Hi - thank you so much for your reply to my acid concerns.  You're absolutely right!  Nobody really understands how awful this can be.  Everyone says to try tums and mylanta - should go away nicely.  I've never had acid in my life before being pg, so I really thought I had mono (and all the drs were perplexed until the ENT did the scope).  Anyway, I am so sorry it affected your vocal cords the way it did - one of the things the ENT looked for was damage to my vocal cords which at that time were still ok.  Today, I still can barely talk and am really nervous about them.  What medication were you put on?  If I stay on them, that could be a total of 26 weeks on the meds throughout pregnancy (8 weeks in first trimester) and 18 through 2nd and 3rd if I stay on them.  I am so scared.

They started with zantac, them moved to something stronger.  I can't remember the name.  Take whatever they give you.  If you are concerned, contact motherrisk in TO, they coordinate all the info from all the countries in the developing world and will tell you the latest research on any substance.  In Canada there is a 1-800 numbre but I think they are on the web as well.

I am assuming I will need the meds soon.  Don't suffer needlessly.  I will ask my doc to look in my records and tell me what med it was....

Thank you!  I'm in the US, so I'll check the web.  I wish they started me with Zantac, because that is supposedly safer than Prilosec.  I'm asking my OB next Tuesday at my regular appt. about it.  I really appreciate your support.  Good luck and take your meds, too.  No need to feel this awful!
