To anyone who had spotting/bleeding in weeks 4-8

by Jenny100, Jan 24, 2007 12:00AM
My Dr didn't tell me any of the reasons WHY a small amount of spotting or bleeding can occur---just that it can be normal and is quite common;not to worry unless it's a lot, etc.

I am wondering if any of you out there have ever gotten any possible reasons from a Dr. for WHY it can happen?

I am about 6 weeks along and have had some brown spotting the past two days. My HcG levels are great, so that is reassuring.

I really don't want to hear anything about it meaning the start of a miscarriage---I know that---I only want to hear OTHER possible reasons. :)(trying to stay positive....:))

I know that sometimes when the uterus grows, the tiny blood vessels might tear and that could cause bleeding.

Brown blood is also an old blood. It could be a reminder from the implementation, but for some reason it didn't come out.

As the previous poster said, brown blood is old blood and when I bleed around weeks 6 and 7 my midwife said it was probably old blood from implantation.

My doctor said between week 4-8 spotting/bleeding can be from implantation bleeding also from everything growing and you get so much more blood down there your cervix is very sensitive  some womens cervix will bleed or spot a little from all the things happening down there. Also I was told brown blood is old blood that has been up there for awhile so it's not fresh and not to worry. My doctor also told me when I had spotting no sex until 7 days after the spotting stops.
Hope this helps, think positive =)

I had the same problem at about 6w.  My doctor told me brown blood is good blood.  It's actually old blood and my doctor told me that you will usually see that happen around the time your actual period would have been.  Try not to worry - you should be fine.

I had spotting throughout my first trimester - actually until about week 16.  I am now almost 26 weeks.  It is hard to see the spotting because you always think the worst but just like your doctor said - it happens.  I had about 6 u/s in my first trimester and many exams of my cervex.  One time I even had clotty spots which scared me to death.  They think that time it may have been a cyst.

So it does happen.  Scary stuff but you should be just fine.

I am 8 wks and I had spotting from 4 weeks to about 6 weeks.  At first it was only on the tp after using bathroom.  Then once it was bright red and clotty.  Thought I was m/c but went for scan and they saw heartbeat.  Dr said it was either from having twins and losing one or from hematoma.  Don't worry all will be fine.

Just want you to know that you have been in my thoughts and prayers.  I hope you are doing okay.  I hear of a lot of people bleeding some in early pregnancy and go on to have healthy pregnancy.  When I m/c it was bright red blood and a lot of it between 5 - 6 weeks.  So, I think if your numbers are good then hold on to that.  Brown blood is old blood and could be from implantation.  Keep staying positive and try not to stress.  May God be with you and give you His peace.

Brown spotting, especially when not combined with any terrible cramping, is probably nothing whatsoever.  Keep your chin up!

From my own experience, I had red spotting and passed a couple of tiny clots at 7 weeks with this baby.  I went in for every test under the sun and had a vaginal u/s.  The u/s showed a healthy baby and what they found was that one of my swabs tested positive for a bacterial infection.  The doc said it's something they don't even worry about when you're not pg, but if pg it can cause bleeding and preterm labor if left untreated.  He labeled it as "bacterial vaginosis" on my card, but I didn't have any of the symptoms of BV.  After a week of prescription meds, I was fine.

I'm sure things are going to be fine for you, especially with a healthy hcg level.  Good luck!!

I had some mild cramping and bleeding at 7 weeks.  It lasted only for a day or 2.  I went in for an u/s and everything was fine.  I was told it was left over blood in the placenta and that it was my body just getting rid of it.
Dark blood is ok, implantation bleeding.  Anything bright red is cause for concern.

stress caused me to bleed early

a subchorionic bleed caused it later

Stress can cause bleeding? I have never heard of this. If that is true, this could be the case with me. When I had an ultrasound last Wednesday at 5+ weeks, they saw only a sac and got me all freaked out instead of telling me it can be normal. So I have been VERY STRESSED.
