Toddler with a high fever for 5 days

My granddaughter (22 mths old) has been running a fever for 5 days.  She's been to the ER - her doctor several times and has no other symptoms.  She didn't want to eat or drink the first two days, she is eating a drinking on and off now. She had a panel done - low white blood count and that's it - nothing else showing.  The fever almost never goes down to normal and they have to use Tylenol and Ibuprofen at the same time and still takes a while to come down. She did get a rash last night - spiked 102.7 and at the docs today they said it was not Roseola.  They want to send her to a specialist... and have no idea what is wrong with her.  Very worried.

Sounds like a virus to me- there are plenty that have a fever followed by rash. Not to go against what the doctors told you, but I wouldn't panic. My kids always get very high viruses for several days just like you describe. Our ped always declares it to be a virus and says that the high fever can last 5 days, sometimes longer. When tylenol and motrin aren't doing much, a tepid bath should do the trick. Sometimes my kids run a temp of 103-104 WITH the meds in them. The luke warm bath has always worked when all else failed.

Any other symptoms?

I agree with the others.  If she's eating and drinking occasionally,  and if 102.7 is the highest it spiked (for her age that's not terribly high) and if she is occasionally playing and chatting and acting normal,  this will most probably pass.  What you worry about is a child who won't drink or hold down fluids,  whose head flops back and they don't attempt to raise it when you lift them,  who don't get up out of bed or off the couch or the floor for very long periods of time and seem disoriented.  If she's still trying to play off and on,  and her highest recorded fever is 102.7,  and she's drinking,  it sounds like they should watch it but it'll be okay.

Best wishes.
