Too much movement too early on??? Also imbilical cord question...

I am 17 weeks as of yesterday and this is my second baby. I First felt my baby move about 3 weeks ago, and it was sparatic(sp?) up until last week. Now, I am feeling this baby move everyday, and I even felt it on the outside this morning (felt my womb tighten and get hard, so I put my hands on my belly and it moved sure enough, It felt so small!)...My question is, Isn't this too early to be feeling the baby so much in a day?? I don't know how, but, could that be an indication of something bad? I'd say, the most I feel this bad in a day is 5-7 harder movements and several lighter movements, like it is turning in my womb or something.Should I be feeling it so much already?? I know it is my second but...??

Also, I have to say that I am totally freaked out about my baby getting caught in the imbilical cord now! I have read several posts about women losing their baby's because the cord was wrapped around it in the womb...Is ther anything you can do to lessen this from happening?? How often does this happen?..I am scared to death that my baby will get all tangled in there! When my daughter was born, her cord was tightly wrapped around her stomach several times, and that about freaked the Cr@p outta me!! Could this happen again, only in a more scary spot?? Thanks as always ladies!~bops

Hello!!   I don't think you should worry about the movement.  Like you said, it is your second.  I heard you feel them earlier the second time around.  Maybe you are farther along?
As for the umbilical cord, I'm right there with you!!   It makes me so nervous.  How do you know if they are in distress?
Someone needs to find a way to make this pregnancy thing a  little easier on us women!!   Like have men carry them!!!   lol

I'm just 18 weeks and I am also feeling a ton of movement, even from the outside. I don't think that this indicated that there is anything wrong. Strong movement is good. The say if the baby feels "frantic" to contact your doctor, but in my first pregnancy my daughter was spastic all of the time. It would be so hard to say what is frantic and what is not. I was always nervous when she  moved really fast though.
As for your cord fears, I have those too. The cord is naturally slippery, designed in a way that makes it very difficult to wrap around the baby and stay. I don't think that there is anything for a mother to do that reduces the risk. Pregnancy is such a wonderful yet scary time. I know how you feel about this cord issue. I always have tons of anxiety that something will go wrong and think about it way too much.

Lynne-thanks! I am glad you are ok and I am glad my baby sounds ok.. I can't complain about all the movement, I had been waiting for it and I love feeling the baby move, but it just seems like a lot of movement for so early on...I guess it is a good thing!! Men carrying babies?? That is a good idea in theory, but My DH is freaked out by spiders!! I definately don't think he could deal w/ giving birth!! LOL :)

Mommabean-My daughter moved so much too! I didn't think any other baby could move as much as her, but this one is already proving me wrong about that!  I am glad I am not the only one totally freaked out by the cord thing, I am so scared something will happen in there, and of course, there is little we can do to help it!!

Thanks so much for responding gals!!~bops

I fear the cord issue also! If only we could have a window in our bellies...that would ease our fears (maybe)! I don't think there is any way to prevent cord accidents. They unfortunately just happen sometimes.

my girls are always very active, so active in fact that the ultrasound techs can't catch them well to get heartbeat readings.lol. the doctor told me that a more active baby has a lesser chance of things like downs. it's when a baby is always inactive that they worry. the busier they are the more muscle tone they are developing. it's supposed to be a good sign.

I am freaking out too.  I thought I was just acting crazy.  I obsess over my little baby dying and it getting strangled.  My DH gets so mad at me b/c I cry over this stuff.  Im 31 weeks and have not bought one thing for this baby yet b/c I dont believe its going to happen.  I have to other DD's and I dont recall being this paranoid.  I had alot of problems with this baby though from day 1 so maybe thats why.  Im very attatched and couldnt imagine going through what the others girls have gone through on this site.  I try not to read there posts but its hard not to.  I just pray every night God will protect my baby and thats all I can do.  This little one is also very active and moves all the time.  If I blow my nose to loudly or my dd starts to cry, the baby moves all over....sooooo cute!

I'm paranoid too! I know so many people who have had the baby's cord around the neck...and for the most part the kids are all fine. So really I don't know why I freak out so much! Just one of those things, I guess! I did tell my doctor how worried I was about it and he assurred me that the baby would have constant fetal monitoring while I am in labor. I told him that as much as I want to deliver natually, I want a C-Section done at the first sign of struggle for the baby. He noted it in my chart. So maybe you could just bring it up with your doc also. Apparently they hear it all the time, because my doctor told me that I'm not paranoid...just normal and that all moms worry about that! :) Good luck!

My little guy is so much more active than any of my girls were. He constantly moves, wiggles, kicks and punches and I sometimes wonder if that's normal. That's why I worry that he will get caught up in his cord. It never ceases to amaze me how much love a mother can feel for a child she has never even met, other than feeling him grow and move inside her. I am completely head over heels in love with my son and I cannot wait to hold him in my arms and welcome him into our family. I had forgotten how much love you can feel for your unborn child. It's amazing...no matter how many you have, you have more than enough love for each one of them.

Jenshim and Ruby o-I am with you!! I am so freaked out because this baby seems so active, I am afraid that it will get tangled in the cord w/ all its playing around in there!

It is true, the worries never end, and I do already have so much love for this baby, I wish I was as close to the end as you two!! Bops

They say that the cord is the babies first toy in there.  I beg to differ.  I am convinced its my bladder!!!!!

"Hmmm...I wonder what this does.....Oh it makes mommy pee her pants"

I gotta agree with all of you. I'm so worried about something happening to my little girl. I feel so helpless cause there's nothing I can do to prevent a cord issue from happening.
