ok, i know i shouldnt be upset but I am 25 weeks 3 days and just came from the drs and i have gained 30lbs so far!!! she asked me if i eat junk food or drink soda or fried foods or fast food. well, i eat none of these. occasionally pizza. so now she tells me cutCuts and puncture wounds out all sugars even fruit except for berries and melon. I have to limit my dairy, especially cheese and yogurt which are main staple in my diet and no sugar even in my lemonade. I thought I was doing good. I eat a good breakfast, some fruit and veggies and a sensible dinner w/ a pop or a water ice for dessert. I feel like I am doomed!!! can anyone offer help or suggestions. I just am hungry if i dont eat every 2 to 3 hours.
I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. I have known a lot of people who gain 50 pounds with each kid, and then it just melts off afterward. Also, some people gain the bulg of their pg weight before the 3rd trimester, and then only gain 5-10 pounds in the last 2-3 months total. It is of course a good idea to eat sensibly, but listen to your body more than you listen to your Dr. :)
I will be 25 weeks tomorrow and my OB said the same thing to me! I have gained 22 pounds! But, I was also 100 pounds before pregnancy so I have read if you are underweight before then you will gain more! I am eating healthy but like my treat or two! I can't help it! DON'T WORRY!
I wouldn't worry! And I wouldn't cutCuts and puncture wounds out dairy, cheese, yogurt...those are things that are good for you and the baby, good calcium and protein. And I also wouldn't cutCuts and puncture wounds out fruit, it is good for you/baby. The only thing I would cutCuts and puncture wounds out if I were you is the processed sugar/carbs and fast food, otherwise I would just eat when hungry. Walnuts are really good for the baby b/c of omegasOmega-3 Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids Omega-500 in them, you could try snacking on them when you are hungry.
Congrats on your healthy pregnancy!!!:)
thanks to everyone for comments, I dont think i can give up cheese anyway...its one of my two cravings!!! I guess I will just carry on as I am and try to avoid some binges when I can. So as I sit here and eat my salad.....arghhhhh, I will go home to a nice salmon dinner w/ green beans and wild rice. I guess my lil guy just wants food. :)
Hey I am right there with you! Popped on the scale this morning as I usually do before a drs appt so that I have no suprises---Yikes!
I too have gained almost 25 lbs and am only 23 weeks. Honestly, I don't eat any junk, AND i swim EVERY day. I just eat FREQUENTLY. Can't help it, I am hungary I have to eat. This weekend I went away and was feeling VERY dizzy, and could not even go out for a walk--I even fell twice. Well, when I came back and saw I gained 3 lbs,I got depressed! I am back at the gym today, and will just continue eating healthy and exercising. That is all we can do---would the doc want you to go on a diet now???? I am sure your weight will come off easily and I would't worry---I would cut out the pop though.
I think one of the worst things a pregnant woman can do it "diet" while pregnant. You and your baby need nutrients and the last trimester is a very important time for myelin sheath development and you need to ingest fat for that to happen.
I agree with the others, cut out the refined sugars like what is found in soda and many juices. Try a low fat cheese if you eat a lot of it (one of my cravings as of late has been grilled cheese and mustard, giving up cheese would kill me,lol)
Make sure you still get your RDA for calories, including those from fat, carbs, and protein. Just be smart about it and you will be fine. With my boys, i didn't gain anything until the last trimester. I gained 50 with each and by 2 weeks PP with my first I was back pre-preg, three weeks with my second. I have to admit, I was shocked to see I had gained 5 lbs with this one at 17 weeks, it is so weird given the way my other two went. I look at it this way, I am nurturing another life, I don't expect to look fabulous while pregnant, I might as well make sure my baby gets all they need without worrying about weight gain. I could never be one of those who dwells on every pound while pg.
Your doctor may need to re-look at your sugar levels and make sure everything is fine with those. I gained quite a bit of weight in the beginning and was measuring large with my pregnancy. Started a diabetic diet and dropped the extra wight or fluid---ended up only gaining 17 pounds and had a healthy 8 lb 9 oz bb. Ask your doctor what her concern is about your weight gain--it could be she is trying to prevent something from happening to you and the baby.
I think from what you are saying, you are eating pretty sensibly. I put on 74 1/2 lbs with my first pregnancy, all of which I lost by the time my daughter was about 9 mos old. My second I put on 54 and my third I put on 40. My Dr. never harped on me about my weight gain because I was eating sensible foods for the most part. Don't stress yourself. When your body craves something, eat it. That is your body telling you that you are lacking something. Definitely do not cut out your dairy. You need the extra calcium in your diet now more than ever. Any weight you put on will come off, may take time, but it will. Good luck!!
Forgot to mention that I too eat a lot of calcium---Dannon's lowfat fruit on the bottom and also, if you like cheese, Cabot has cheese that is 50% and I believe 75% fat free. It is a little more on the bland side, but it is cheese, and it works for me. I also cut ice cream and eat fruit pops. Breyers has a new one out very yummy--it is 100% lemon and lime bars and I think only 45 calories. I also eat soy crips for snacks. I am curious what my doc will say tomorrow when I see him....haven't seen him since I was 12 weeks....you know how it goes, you see a new doc on every appointment...at least with me, they want to rotate my docs in the event my doc is not around during delivery which I hope is not the case. He is great, never gives me lectures and is way cool.
Congrats on your healthy pregnancy!!!:)
