Took Clomid but Progesterone Level Extremely Low

by BabeMuneca, Aug 11, 2006 12:00AM
So okay Ladies, I mentioned in a past post I was going to start the Clomid (last month), which I did, & tested my Progesterone this month on the 4th. My doc called me last night to tell me that she's still concerned b/c my level wasn't what she'd like to see. She'd like it to be at 10 or 12 or even 15, but it was 5.2. With that being said, I doubt I was able to conceive this month, even using an OPK. 8-(  If I get my period on the 15th, then I will be sad, but I'll keep my head up. My DH and I will keep on trying, but telling him the news last night made me cry & him too. My doc said she wanted to up my dosage for this coming cycle of the Clomid to 3 pills a day for 5 days (starting again on CD3), as well as having me take progesterone vaginally 3 days after I O.

My question that I'm wondering about now I guess, is will it be successful this time around? My cycle is or has been 34 days since two years ago, and my DH and I have been TTC for the past 5 years and have done the SA, the FSH, the HSG to where we're resorting to FD's. Does anyone or can any give me any feedback?

I'm sooo completely lost and frustrated.

When I was taking 50 mg of clomid, my progesterone one week after ovulation was 9.9. Last month, my doctor increased it to 100 mg, and my progesterone was 21.5 a week after ovulation. So, the increased dosage might do the trick for you! Good luck.

My doc upped my dosage to 150mgs, which I will start when my period starts again (around the 15th)...I did the OPK and it told me I ovulated, so what I don't understand is why "conception" just didn't happen.

Having only ONE fallopian tube wouldn't make matters harder would it? I mean, this is where I'm confused. Could it have been that I just ovulated, but it came from the right side where there is no fallopian tube, and that perhaps this month coming taking the higher dosage of Clomid and also the progesterone would work as it would be coming from the left side of my fallopian tube? (Sorry to sound naive)...I just am not getting it....::sigh::

No, it's not naive- it's just confusing. From what my nurse has told me, sometimes, your body will prepare for ovualtion, you'll experience an LH surge, but then nothing. You still may not have ovulated even if you had a + OPK.

I understand your frustration.  I tested my levels on the 6th and they were also very low.  I've been taking clomid (50mg) for the past two months.  The first months I had a lot of side effects and felt yucky.  This past month I had no symptoms with the pill and did not O.  I'm planning to start AF on the 14th and for my doctor to increase my amount to 100-150 mg.  This will be my third cycle.  Just like you I am frustrated and disappointed.  I have heard positive news about the success rate of clomid, but we are waiting for it to happen to us.  I just wanted you to know that you are not alone.

God Bless you and extra sticky baby dust 2 U and DH!

Hello, I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am for what you are going through.  I did want to tell you, however, the my fertility specialist told me not to put too much stock in progesterone levels (my doc won't even test them) because he said if one woman had her blood drawn every half hour for 3 hours that most likely the levels would not be the same on any those tests, in other words progesterone levels flucuate during the day.  Before you go onto upping your clomid, I really suggest purchaseing the book 'Taking Control of Your Fertility' by Toni Weschler.  I know your probably thinking, what do I need a book about fertility for?, I know I did.  But I just bought it and this book is absolutely amazing- there is a lot of info in it about your body that no-one has probably ever told you.  One thing she talks about is that clomid may help you ovulate, but it also dries out you fertile cervical fluid, and then dh's little swimmers cannot survive in such unfavorable conditions.  One way to bypass this would be to do clomid with an IUI.  I want to wish you the best of luck, and strongly reccomend getting that book. If I am ever lucky enough to have a daughter, and when she is old enough to be sexully active, she will be reading this book- it's that good!
