At age 39 and 18 weeks pregnant, my child was diagnosed as having TrisomyDown syndrome 18. She was still born on 7/30/04. I got pregnant again and miscarried, she was diagnosed as having TrisomyDown syndrome 15. Other than because of AMA, should I be concerned? Is there any other possible reasons? Should I forget having a healthy baby on my on? I currently have a perfectly healthy 4 year old. How uncommon is it to have to children back-to-back with those TrisomyDown syndrome Abnormalities?
Trisomies are more common with advancing maternal age, but I simply don't know whether these two events are linked, or are plain tragic coincidence.
Certainly, it would not be unwise to consult a genetic counselor if your doctor thinks it would be helpful in deciding whether to try again.
I'm so sorry for your losses.
