Trisomy 18 and Trisomy 15

by nonni40, Mar 29, 2005 12:00AM
At age 39 and 18 weeks pregnant, my child was diagnosed as having Trisomy 18.  She was still born on 7/30/04.  I got pregnant again and miscarried, she was diagnosed as having Trisomy 15.  Other than because of AMA, should I be concerned?  Is there any other possible reasons?  Should I forget having a healthy baby on my on?  I currently have a perfectly healthy 4 year old.  How uncommon is it to have to children back-to-back with those Trisomy Abnormalities?

Thanks for any advice and help you can give.

Sincerely,
Nonni40

The best person to ask this question of is your doctor.

Trisomies are more common with advancing maternal age, but I simply don't know whether these two events are linked, or are plain tragic coincidence.

Certainly, it would not be unwise to consult a genetic counselor if your doctor thinks it would be helpful in deciding whether to try again.

I'm so sorry for your losses.
