Good morning ladies! How are you all today? Went to the doctor and I have only gained 3lbs in a month. So far I have gained 33 lbs. and am 32 weeks today.

Last night I watched a 18 month old that is mentally a 2-4 month old. It was really hard, because he is so big and it was really hard knowing that his doctors say that there is no reason for him to be like that. Is doctor is a quack and it is so horrible knowing that he is doing nothing for this little boy. It broke my heart!!

Good morning everyone... sorry to hear about that little boy..someone should be doing something to help him!  I wonder about doctors these days.... things are fine with me.. on cd5.  I couldn't sleep last night, so I took tylenol p.m. and boy was my temperature low this morning!  96.8!  That's .7 degrees below yesterday!  I must have gotten some really deep sleep!  Any body else's temperature drop that much in 24 hours?  just wondering!  Oh well...just biding my time until the big Ovulation day !  I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Yeah, my temperature dropped to 36.1, then spiked to 36.6, down again and then went up to 36.7 and stayed there for 6 days solid, and have just discovered am 4 weeks preggie, (period was due 24th November)did home preg test.  Am holding my breath though as I had a miscarriage in September, had a normal period in October and using an ovulation charting thing, fell this month!  Am happy but am too scared to be too happy, until the danger period is over.  I already have two healthy children, daughter 16 and son 10, but am so desperately broody and want another with my new partner of five years.

Wow! This little boy is keeping me on my toes! All he does is eat and sleep, but I can't put him down!! :) LOL

Anyway, I thought I would share some things I have learned through trial and error these two weeks....

-Pampers is the BEST diaper! Huggies and Luvs leak. My neighbor gave me a pack of Huggies from when her DD was born and told me they leaked on her too. She hoped they might work for me, but they didn't. Yes, Pampers is a little more pricey than others, but trust me when I say you would rather pay that extra $2 than be changing the baby's clothes at 3am.

-BEFORE baby is born have at least 6 or 7 packs of NEWBORN size diapers on hand. You'll need that many.

-6-8 wet diapers is an avg. Colton makes more like 12-15 a day. (that's wet and poo-but since he is breastfed, he poo's almost every time he eats and he eats every 2-3 hours...you do the math)

-Have at least 10 newborn gowns. The footed sleepers are cute, but impractical. Imagine it's 3am, dark and you not only have to change baby but figure those darn snaps out while running on 2 hours sleep yourself.....It's so much easier to just push up the gown, change baby and pull it back down.

-Have at least 10 recieving blankets. Seems like a lot, but it isn't unless you want to be doing laundry every other day.

Hope these help! I had to have DH run to the baby store for extra gowns and blankets when Colton was just a few days old! Thankfully, I had been buying diapers at every grocery trip for the last two months of my pregnancy so we had PLENTY of diapers!

Thanks for the pointers Kassismom. I only have one pack so far and they are Pampers! As for the receiving blankets, I have tons, probably too many. Night gowns, I have 3 I think but I'll wait on them. They are actually hard to find here.

Well, I am still sick would you believe. I feel like ****. If I don't stop caughing and blowing my noise. I feel like a germ bag. I'm afraid I'm disturbing the baby with all the caughing. Does anyone have any recommendations to help get rid of it. My doc said chicken soup and reg tylenol. That's it!

If my calculations are right, my EDD is this Saturday and a week from Sunday according to the u/s. I'm hoping I'm right. I would actually like to go in Sunday, my doctor is away Friday and Saturday and this is all I am thinking about. I'd really like for her to be there for my delivery since she's so great and I trust her. I really don't have good luck with doctors at all.

Well, the boys are getting out of school soon and I have to pick them up and run to hockey and bowling. Nice to see they have a life, unlike myself. LOL

Take care everyone, have a great day!

Try a humidifier. Run it in the room you are in most of the time and at night in your bedroom. If you don't want to move it from room to room and have an open kitchen area (open to the living area I mean), boil a stock pot of water. Just be sure to keep checking on it and not to let it get to low. But that should moisten the air and in turn moisten your airways making it easier to breathe without coughing so much. Also, you can get Eucalyptus oil, boil water in the microwave in a large bowl and put a few drops of the oil in it. Put your face over the steam with a towel over your head (not too close to the steam though!). I do this for my DD before school when she has a little cold and it clears her right up! (If you can't find Eucalyptus oil, a dab of Vicks rub will dissolve right in the hot water and have the same effect.)

still a mom-
beleive it or not there are quite a few children that have some sort of either delay or developement problem and nothing is being researched to find out why.
my friend adopted a little boy that they said when he was quite small (baby) and said that he would have learning problems....he is now 4 1/2 and learning how to do things or problem solving is not an issue.., however, he does have a disconnect.  it's like his brain gets stuck on one thing....and he doesn't know how to reaso his way around it.  he has asthma (bad) so he has been on steroids for most of his life and that has made him BIG and STRONG!!  so when he gets in this stuck state he will fight just about anyone to the end.  so far the only person we have found that he will not fight and that can snap him out of this state is my dh.....not sure if it is because of his size and strength or the little boys addoration for him. (my friend is a single mom....and small and short)  he knows he can out do mom but he can't out do uncle brian.  unfortunately she keeps asking every neurologist they send her to if there is any research or experimental things and they tell her this is normal.....i'm sorry but if you could just see one of these tantrums he has you would know in a second this wasn't normal.....
my big fear is that he is only getting older and bigger....someday he is going to hurt someone...then what?

kassimom-
isn't it amazing how much we forget from one child to the other?? dh and i have been stocking up on diapers for some time now.  i think i have 5 packs of newborn but i might pick up a couple more.  as for the huggies i soooo agree i hated those things with ds...they always leaked

Not only forget from one child to the next, but how different things are with each child. With a second child, I now understand that whole "I love them both in different ways."

Damali-This board is a wonderful source of inspiration and support. I myself have been coming here almost a year and the women here helped me cope with the loss of a pregnancy and have helped me celebrate the success of concieving as well as the birth of my new son. They also have helpful insights when it comes to questions regarding my older child too! I hope you find it as enjoyable as I do! WELCOME! :)

Qw-Thanks for the tip on diapers. I try not to shop at Walmart too often (I hate the customer service lately!! GRRRR...) But next time I am in there I will grab a pack and if they work I may have to make trips there to stock up on diapers!  Do you know if Sam's carries them? I would LOVE to be able to buy diapers in bulk but last time I was at Sam's they only carried Huggies....

Does anyone have a wipey preference? We were using Pampers Sensitive, but my pedi told me to use just plain warm water and paper towels for now and to get Huggies Newborn to use as well. She said Huggies Newborn has no dyes, perfumes or alcohol. But my DH likes the Pampers better (he likes the pop-up dispenser and says the wipes feel softer). What do you like better?

I too had issues with diapers leaking with our babies.  We found Dri bottoms from Walmart work well (they are like $ 10.56 for a jumbo bag).  We went through so many diapers and I couldn't imagine
buying name brand, yikes!  You may want to give those a try.

In my opinion the Equate brand diaper cream was much better than the name brands too.

I only discovered this forum a couple of days ago, and I'm so glad I did.  I've felt so alone with my best girlfriends, both of whom are pregnant while I'm desperately TTC.  While I'm NOT happy that there are so many other women in the world having the same problems, it feels good to know that I'm not alone, and that there's a wonderful support network out there.  So, kudos, ladies; you've made a newcomer feel comfortable, supported, and not so alone.  I only hope that, in time, I can pass on those same feelings to someone else.

with the dri bottom's from walmart there are alot that are packaged different but are the same.  Foodlion brand, BJ's brand and SAM's club brand are all the same. Unfortunately for me DD has a sensitive bum and cannot use them.  I really like the Huggies wipes.  It's funny though she can only use pampers diapers and huggies wipes.  In regards to the newborn diapers my DD weighed 8lb 14oz and only used about a half a pack of newborns before needing size ones

I use the parents choice wipes from Walmart.

I used the Huggies newborn wipes at first and then I switched over to the Huggies wipes with no scent. I used them with ds 10 years ago as well.

As for diapers.......I didn't go through near that many new born size.......Talon was on the small side when he was born but he grew very quickly..(about 2 ounces a day)
I didn't have any of the gowns. I just went with the sleepers with the feet in them. I was afraid he would get too cold going the other way.
Not only are babies different......so are the way the parents perfer to do things....lol.
I'm glad everything is going so good.

BTW.....I used Huggies diapers with my ds 10 years ago and swore by them.......this time around I only used about 4 of them and changed my mind real fast.......after the newborn size I went to the Pampers swaddlers (more expensive but they are so much softer for baby) and now he is in the size 3 cruisers.........I love them. And NO LEAKS.
In the beginning (even with pampers) I was having to change his clothes with every diaper change. I was afraid to get the diaper too tight on him and I was the one causing the leaks by doing that....lol.

Definitely try different brands of diapers. With Jonathan, we loved different brands for different stages. He wasn't in newborns but for a minute, size 1 for a short while and so on. But with each size, we found a wide variety of brand worked. Size 1, we liked White Cloud, Luvs for 2 and 3, Pampers for 4 until he got this mystery rash that lasted for months (we had to switch to Huggies Supreme, never looked back), guess what, it was the Pampers!! If your baby has a sensitive tush, avoid Pampers and Luvs (made by the same company) as their perfumes can cause bleeding!

Tristan is a Luvs baby. We bought those dang Cruisers from Pampers and they would explode at night, leaving the bed covered in that gel. I called, complained and got a coupon for a free pack (like I want to go through that again!)

Anyway, use your best judgement. I will say I didn't like Huggies UT or Supreme in newborn, 1 or 2. They just don't fit right and will leak. A surprising thing for me to find out, the Safeyway brand diapers in size 3 aren't too bad, never had a leak (of course, I only used them long enough to get through the pack)

For those of you who don't have babies yet, it may seem confusing to see that you may have to change diaper brands everytime they grow, but trust me, with both of my boys, I have had to do it.

As far as wipes, I prefer Kirkland wipe from Costco. I was a sceptic for 2 years, insisting I needed to use Huggies wipes, until one day I used a Kirkland brand wipe at the pedi's office. I feel in love with them, they are so soft and even with the issues we had with Jonathan's tushie, we never had a problem with those wipes! They are soft, they work without irritating tushies and they are inexpensive. And they are cheap enough you can use them for hands and faces, too. When you consider that you pay 2 times as much for Huggies/Pampers wipes, it adds up : )

ANyway, it is so a personal choice. I have one friend who swore by Huggies diapers and Pampers wipes for her two boys and another friend who swore by Pampers diapers and Huggies wipes for her 2 kids.

I will say I love the Pampers pull-ups as their fit is more snug and it doesn't look so bulky, but the Huggies ones go on easier and can be resealed if the side pops open. But the Huggies give major wedgies  : )

I too had to switch at different stages like Andrea.  My 3 year old is fully potty trained now (YIPPEEE) but he still likes to have his "royal behind" wiped when he poops in the toilet.  He only likes pampers wipes (sensitive) cause he says the others "hurt".  I'll have to try kirkland...I hate spending tons of money on wipes cuz my 3 year old likes to wipe everything LOL! =)

Avatar_n_tn
i tried the huggies wipes with ds and they dried MY skin out from handling them so i switched because i figured that couldn't be good for baby.  tried the kirkland brand and it did the same thing.  so i just stick to the pampers natural i like them and he doesn't have any reaction to them.
and as far as the wiping the bum when pooping on the potty...we bought the flushable wipes.  pampers and huggies both make a version of these.

and since we are on the subject of baby reactions and different products.....i found that i had to use Johnson and Johnson lotion on his skin. my SIL left me some suave baby lotion and it made him break out. besides i noticed that the suave may have been cheaper but it was very runny so i had to use more...whats the point.  i could use just a dot of the J&J or about 3x as much of the other.

We use the white cloud brand for dd. They go on like underwear & you can tear them at the sides to take them off.  We haven't had a problem with leaks even at night.
