U/S Lack of Clarity

U/S Lack of Clarity

I had my first prenatal visit today during which they did my ultrasound and had some issues actually getting my gestational age right. They could see a yolk sac but the NP insisted she saw nothing else and that because of that she had no idea how old the fetus was and guesses it at 5 weeks. My boyfriend and I BOTH saw a little shadow in my uterus though and not just a yolk sac. The NP never held the u/s steady so we would get flashes of what looked like a mass protruding from the sac, but because of her fidgetiness while doing the u/s she would lose the shadow pretty quick. She measured the sac and said it reads as me being 6w3d but that with no visible fetus I must be barely arriving at 5 weeks.

Now I have to redo my entire prenatal visit in 10 days and my boyfriend and I are both wondering if it's ever possible that the u/s isn't quite accurate, due to poor navigation or poor reading by the practitioner. We both left feeling like the whole visit was somewhat bumbling and rushed and weren't entirely happy with our inconclusive visit. The NP had awful bedside manner too and seemed like she was in a huge rush, talking over us and not giving us a chance to ask any questions :(

in answer to  your questions, yes, yes, and yes, the skill of the sonographer has sooo much to do with it, also the age of the equipment does as well, she should have also asked to do a vaginal u/sound as well as this give a much better idea of the size of gestational sack etc, dont worry too much 10 can make a huge difference, good luck
