Spina bifida occulta is common. Two studies undertaken in Great Britain in the mid 1980s suggest that 22% or 23% of people have spina bifida occulta. Even though there is a very slightly increased chance of a slipped disc, very few people with spina bifida occulta will ever have any problems because of it. If a person has no symptoms from spina bifida occulta as a child, then it is unlikely that they will have any as an adult.
Most people will not even be aware that they have spina bifida occulta unless it shows up on an X-ray which they have for some unrelated reason. It is usually just a small part of one vertebra low in the back which is missing.
The dr said that this type of spina bifida (if that is what this truly is) is not something to be too concerned with. But it still is scary in my book. I just hope my little man is ok.
Thank you and yea I read that already so it did make me feel a little better! I just wanna know what we have to go for now! That is what the dr said tho, that you dont know it unless you have an x-ray!!
I am sorry you are going through this. At least you had one problem solved and now you can focus on the next challenge. You and your family will be in my prayers and please try not to stress yourself out. We have great technologies and doctor and they can fix anything.

I'm so sorry, honey! I sure hope everything turns out okay. I'm glad they're sending him in for a more definitive diagnosis; hopefully that will bring some good news!!!
Oh poor you, I felt so awful when I read about your little man, I can't even imagine what your emotions must be doing right now, I was almost in tears reading your post. Best of luck and be strong for you little man.
P.S. I'm in the 1ww club again! Our last IUI if it doesn't work we've got 1 shot at IVF.
I'm feeling much better since I hit the 8 week mark! I'm so hungry all the time now and tired early at night. I go to the Dr.s in one hour, I'm so nervous. I'm 8 weeks 3 days today. I'll update you when I get back! Take care, Kendra~~~ oxoxoxox
Ok I talked to the dr. again last nite and she said that they want to do an x-ray for now just on his spine and when we get the results from this then we will move forward with going to Children's to see a Neurologist. I am taking him tomorrow to get his x-ray.
Steph - No reflux, eh? Just as you thought! I am sorry I did not get a chance to email you back. I truly truly hope that everything works out. I am so happy that you went ahead with further testing and although no one wants for anything to be wrong, imagine if you hadn't done any tests! I will be thinking of you and your little guy. BIG HUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck tomorrow at the x-ray! Keep us posted!
I don't think this is a sign from God though. I am sure your tests will be fine and everything will work out.
