I went to the doctor for my firstFirst progesterone mc10 First progesterone mc5 First-progesterone vgs 100 First-progesterone vgs 200 First-progesterone vgs 25 First-progesterone vgs 400 First-progesterone vgs 50 First-testosterone First-testosterone mc appointment on 4/16 and I should have been 8 weeks pregnant based on the date of my last period. When she did my ultrasound the doctor only saw a sac and there was nothing inside of it. She called it a missed miscarriage. I was sent for bloodwork and my HCG level was 40,038. I was then sent in 48 for more bloodwork and my HCG level had dropped to 39,788. Then I went back to the doctor on 4/25 and she did another ultrasound and it was still just a sac with nothing inside of it. I went for more bloodwork and my HCG level had dropped to 28,821. I have not had any other signs of a miscarriage no bleeding, no cramping, NOTHING! This weekend I should have been 10 weeks, so this has been going on for almost 4 weeks. I doctor did not advise me to have a D&C because she kept saying that my body should take care of itself but I am just concerned since it has already been 4 weeks. If this has happened to anyone please let me know and how long was it before you started bleeding.
About 6 uears ago, I had the same kind of thing happen. Only, I was not told anything at my ultrasound other than that my doc would call me w/in a couple of days. When he did call, he had told me that the baby did not have a heartbeatHeart palpitations Ultrasound, normal fetus - heartbeat Ultrasound, ventricular septal defect - heartbeat and scheduled me for a d&c for the next day. I had no signs of miscarriage. I would get a second opinion or something, to assure you there was not an ectopicEctopic pregnancy pregnancy. Your doctor needs to let you know what exaclty is goin on. It's your body and you obvioulsy want to have children so I think the best thing to do would be to rule out anything that they can. They get paid to find out what is going on. And YOU deserve to know. I'm not intending to hurt you or cause concern, I just know what it is like, but at the same time, I can't imagine what youo must be going through to wonder what is happening. My best, Aunt nana
I am sorry to hear about your situation. I went through a similar situation in March, where there was only a sac and nothing else (blighted ovum). I opted for the D&C because I was emotionally exhausted from the situation and I couldn't imagine prolonging my pain even longer by waiting for the miscarriage to occur naturally. The D&C was definitely the right decision for me, but this is such a personal decision and everybody handles the loss differently. I would suggest to consider your options and do what you need to do (not what anybody else or even your doctor thinks you should do). Again, I am so sorry to hear you are going through this, but I am glad you are using this web-site. It was a tremendous comfort to me!
Thank you both for responding to me!! :) When I mentioned having a D&C to my doctor she acted like people hardly ever have them for miscarriages now, people just wait for their body to take care of itself, which I know is a LIE! She has not let me know what is really going on with my body other than telling me that I needed to go ahead and have some pads on hand because it should start anytime. I am going to a different doctor, I am waiting on them to call me back about an appointment. I just don't feel 100% sure of my current doctor. Thank you both for your words of encouragement!! I just was feeling like I was the one and only person this has happened to by the way my doctor has acted.
the exact same thing happened eo me in december. They only saw an empty sac, and i waited about a month for my hormone levels to drop to a point that I miscarried naturally. Just be patient. I didn't go for D&C, becaus ethat has its own risks as well, plus I have had it before and i didnt want to manipulate my uterus too much. I just waited and everything passed naturally. But if you decide to wait, just make sure that you are monitored.
I am really sorry that you are going through this. I know the wait game is frstrating, but be strong.
Hi hun,im really sorry you are going through this,i know how upsetting it can be.Its happend to me twice, the first time i went for my 12 wk u/s and the baby had stopped growing at 6 weeks 6 days,i had no blood or any signs,i waited another week and still nothing so 6 weeks after my baby had died i had a d&c.The 2nd time i was having scans every week as precaution,i seen a sac, then a fetal pole then the heartbeat twice, when i went back for a scan @8 weeks the baby had died,i was heartbroken, the sac never seemed to get much bigger though,as i am now nearly 15 weeks pregnant and have been having regular u/s i could clearly see the differences in size at the same stages.I opted to have a d&c again but i had a bad experience,i think if it happened again i would let nature take its course. With this pregnancy i was on progesterone pessarys until 11 weeks and aspirin until im 36 weeks,i think thats whats helped me,also dont give up hope i would wait a week and have anothe u/s,good luck,i hope everything works out, take care hun
xx
hi there, I'm just recovering from a miscarrige stemming from the same problem, 8 weeks and nothing but a sac. They called it a missed miscarrige for me as well and I basically waited it out to miscarry and got off all the medications i was on.
HCG levels dropping is not a good sign, but just to be 100% sure, I'd wait it out another week and if there is still nothing then i guess meds to induce cramping or a D&C would be the only alternative.
I'm sorry for what you are going through. I had a blighted ovum last June, they discovered it at 11 weeks, when I began to bleed lightly. They thought I would go on to m/c on my own too, but I had made it that far and waited a few more days, the bleeding stopped, so I took some medication to induce the m/c, Cytotec. It is the same thing they used to help induce labor with my first baby, helps you dialate. I was more comfortable doing it that way because I took it over the weekend so I knew I would be at home, which I'm so glad I did. I could not handle waiting any longer, and didn't really want to go in and have a procedure done if I didn't need it. Had I lost a baby I think I would have opted for the D&C because I would not want to have to see the baby, but since it was an empty sac I knew I could handle it. It was still hard and flet a little like labor, really heavy cramping. I'm surprised your Dr. did not offer the D&C though. I know that I just wanted it to be over so I could move on. Plus I still had terrible morning sickness, so I was throwing up several times a day for nothing. I went on to have my first period a few weeks later and then got pregnant right after. I now have another beautiful son who is 4 weeks old today. I hope that you feel better soon, and talk to your Dr. you should be offered choices on how to deal with this, it's hard to wait, and you may end up needing the procedure anyway. I'm sorry for your loss.
I had a similar situation in Feb. I went in for my ultrasound (hoping and praying b/c I had a miscarriage in Oct too) and the baby didn't measure 8 weeks, only 6, w/ no HB. A follow-up US was done the next week w/ the same results. Mine was also a missed miscarriage, but I decided to let my body do it's own thing. It was about 3 weeks before I miscarried but I felt better knowing my body was doing what it was supposed to. If you decide to wait and not to a d&c, be patient...it will happen.
I am really sorry that you are going through this. I know the wait game is frstrating, but be strong.
