Ultrascreen and Cyst

Ultrascreen and Cyst

I just got back from my 12 week nuchal fold ultra screen test.  Baby was moving all around, kind of looked like it had hiccups with arms and legs kicking.  The neck measurement came back @ 1.9 and the tech said anything under 3 was good.  I've never had this test before but they combine it with a blood test and let you know the chances of downs.  They said the hb was strong and measured the correct size for how long, no specifics though.  They also found a cyst on my left side, just under 3 inches which wasn't there for my last u/s at 9 weeks.  I wish they did not tell me this information as I didn't feel it until they did.  Now I am paranoid again.  Do these just come and go?  I see my regular dr on the 20th so hopefully I can have another u/s to see if this is going away.  I don't want to deal with this again as I had one with the last preg this year.

The cyst shouldn't be a problem at all.  A lot of pregnant women have cysts and some cysts are HUGE.  They are rarely a problem.

The 1.9 was a very good result.  Isn't it great to see your little one wiggling around?

when i was pregnant i had a cyst on my right ovary. It grew from 4cm to 21cms and after i gave birth it went away. docs said it wasn't a big deal but i did have it drained when 8mths pregnant. I wouldn't worry its not harmful or anything just keep it checked =)

I had a 7cm cyst on my right ovary at 7 weeks, but it went away when I had subsequent ultrasounds.  Now I'm 32 weeks and baby is doing fine.

Thank you all so much.  I just wish they never told me as I did't feel it before then, now I do!  Well I hope it will go away on its own, just scares me as I lost a child this year and don't want to lose this one too.  But your comments were all so positive.  Thanks again,

I think its a good thing they told you. If it does get bigger it could twist and it will hurt like hell but it will cut the blood supply off that goes to your baby. and your baby will obviously die... most likely it will go away on its own.. its just caused from too much estrogen and b/c your hormones are outta whack

I also had a miscarriage before this pregnancy.  Then came the cyst which was huge at the time.  My understanding is that it's more common than we think.  In the old days, women never know they have cysts.  These days, ultrasound could be too much information and we started worrying on-stop.  I was freaked out for 6 weeks, up all night on internet trying to find out more info only to scare myself more.  Then came the next ultrasound and it was gone.  Try not to worry too much unless your doctor thinks you need to.  I know it's easier said than done.
