Ultrasound today

Ok, so it's been exactly 5 weeks since my LMP, so one would think I was 5 weeks pregnant, right?  Well, the doc did an ultrasound today to make sure it wasn't in my tubes and it wasn't - it's definitely in the uterus, but the baby only measured 4wks 1day.  He said not to worry and that this happens all the time.  Does it?  We for sure saw the gestational sac and possibly the yolk sac, but it was very faint.  He wants me to come back in a week.  Seriously, is the normal?  Should I be worried?  Because I am.  I'm having such a hard time right now.  It took us 16 months to finally get pregnant, now I'm driving myself crazy with worry.  DH isn't worried at all.  I'm so sad and I don't know why, I should be happy cause I'm FINALLY pregnant!  right?  If I'm really only 4wks 1day, then last week when we did HCG test it would have been at 3wks and my level was 286, then 40 hours later it was 425.  Isn't that kind of high for only being 3wks pregnant?!  *sigh*  I'm such a mess...  Help please.

This sounds normal to me! I bet next week you can see the fetal pole and maybe even the heartbeat.
I went in yesterday for my first ultrasound and I am at 6 weeks 5 days...the baby measured 6 weeks 1 day. They said it should catch itself up in time.

I'm really really shocked that they were able to see the sac at 4 weeks.  I had an ultra sound at 4 weeks because I was considered high risk and my uterus was empty still.  All in all if you are 4 weeks prego then you are only two weeks after conception.  I think you may have mis-understood your doctor and you are 4 weeks 1 day after conception.  What due date did the doctor give you?

Doc hasn't given me a due date yet.  I don't really think I misunderstood him though, because he asked me what made me think I was 5wks pregnant...even though he already knew it had been 5wks since LMP.  He just said it was measuring smaller than that, but not to worry.  I still am....just call me "little miss worry wart".

you described exactly what happened to me (and i'm 16 weeks now). basically at my first u/s, the baby measured a week behind what i knew it should be (i knew when i ovulated). we saw the gest sac, and the yolk sac. dr wasn't worried... said i probably calculated wrong. anyways, by the next u/s, the baby caught up to what it should be. guess it was either not a good angle for the u/s, or she was just a little late developing. sounds like so far, so good for you. congratulations!!!!!

It simply could be that you ovulated a little later than before.  Also, babies do a majority of their growing in the 2nd and 3rd trimester, so that is when they usually catch up to whatever they are missing.

Hi, i had an u/s at 5wk 6days (LMP) and they saw nothing, not even the sac. So thats really great wot they saw. I had another u/s 1 wk later and they saw sac,yolk and fetal pole (no HB yet!) that was at 6wk and 6days.
Amazing what difference those few days make.

Apparently, until week 7 or 8 they cannot be accurate about the dates, they can be out to up to 7 days. I had to wait until week 10 for my dating scan for that reason. Or you can have ovulated late. Don't worry, it is early days and I am sure everything will go well!  Best of luck!

sounds normal to me. When i had my first scan I was 9 weeks and a few days going on 10 weeks anyways and the baby measured 8 weeks 1 day
