Unknown discharge between periods

I am sexually active and do have unprotected sex, but I've been with my future husband for 4 years. I desperately want a baby. I noticed about almost 2 weeks ago now, some bleeding along with brownish/pinkish discharge as well as my right ovary giving me some discomfort. The day is happened I was 1 1\2 weeks away from my next period. This discharge went on for about 2-3 days off an on. This the brownish/pinkish/redish discharge came about about 3 days ago and stayed with me for about 1 in an half. I used a tampoons during that time. I am a day late for my period and I took a home pregnancy test this afternoon today. It came out negative but I felt like I could toss my cookies at any given moment. I am going to take another test in 6 days if my period doesn't come. But I'm totally stuck as what my next step should be? My doctor can't get me in till the end of next month! So any advice would be great!
