Vaccinations by 2 months old

Vaccinations by 2 months old

What vaccinations are babies supposed to have by 2 months of age?  The twins have had 1 Hep B and 1 RSV - they are going for their 2 month check up and I am guessing they will be getting some vaccinations.  Just want to be prepared for what they will receive.

My ped doesn't give the MMR until 1 -- same  with CP and Hep A, and flu as early as 6 mths.

My dd got (at her 2 mth) -- 2nd Hep B, DTaP, Hib, PCV, IPV and Rotavirus (this one was an oral vaccine, so 5(!) shots and one oral).  Some of these are available as combo vaccines (have to check which ones), but my ped said the manufacturer ran out so they did not have them.

Good luck!

Kim,

Some people like to give Tylenol before the vaccines to help w/ the pain and any potential fever.  Some peds advise it, others don't (although I haven't met one that said no, but rather may not mention if beforehand).  BUT, you need to check w/ your ped first to see what they recommend and for the correct dosage if you decide to give it.

I don't like to give any unnecessary meds, but I don't like the pain for my little one either...just keep chanting "I'm protecting my baby" over and over and it'll be fine.

Take care...

My Isabelle just had her 2 month appt on Monday --- she got DTaP, HiB, ROTA(oral) and IPV.  It covered Diptheria, tetnus, Pertussis, Hepatitis B, Hemoph.Influenza, rotavirus, polio and maybe one more thing.  Three shots in the leg and one oral (baby swallows a liquid).

I actually just participated in a study regarding tylenol before vaccinations (google AVIS study) and I had been one that gave it with my boys. I had to make my guess based on his reaction and I guessed he didn't have it. I filled out the paperwork, sent it back and when I got home from the post office I tasted the residual in the bottle...it WAS tylenol. So my own little experience said it didn't do much, but the official results won't be out for a few years.

alright thanks. his doctor didnt say anything about medication. all she mentioned was that his next visit was going to be "fun" and i was luckly he wasnt due for any shots until next month. so she didnt tell me i should give him anything. i mean if he does get a fever then i would give him something.

do most babies have reactions or fevers or something. or is it rare?

DH is a pharmacist, and he wouldn't let me give tylenol before the shot. tylenol doesn't work to prevent discomfort, but will help alleviate it after it is present. he gave a lengthy explanation of why, but honestly i didn't pay attention.

dd was miserable after her 2 month shots. they give the same set at 4 and 6 months and it wasn't nearly as bad.

Kim - we were told to give tylenol after the vaccinations.  I agree you should ask your ped first so he can give you the correct dose.  We went straight to walmart after their appointment and got the infant's tylenol.  It seems to be helping.  They got 4 shots each in the thighs and one oral.  I felt so horrible.

We also found out that Braedon inheritated my heartburn/reflux gene!!  :(  He hasn't been eating very good for the last week and would clinch his mouth shut when we tried to feed him.  Well that was because he associated his milk with a burning sensation.  We now have him on baby zantac - just like mommy except my dose is higher.  He ate like a champ when we got home and is now sleeping peacefully with his brother.

I agree with your DH.  It's the same thing as if you took tylenol to prevent a headache.  Doesn't happen.  You take it after, right?  Same thing here.
