Vaccine Questions...

I know there was a question of whether or not we should have a 'specific forum' for this topic, but i wanted to know how some of you feel about vaccines all together...

I do think a forum specified to vaccines would be beneficial.

My husband is TOTALLY against all the vaccines..i am doing much reading on it as well. We decided not get have our dd get vaccinated for her 1yr checkup and had to sign off at the doc office. Which they did not like to begin with. I know some people split the shots...ie, instead of 4 in one visit, they go back 2 weeks later to get the rest...etc...

Since my dd was born (aug 4th, 2006) my doc office has changed their shot schedule THREE TIMES! That made me a bit concerned.
So I just don't know what type of schedule to follow now.  I have read to wait until they are 2yrs of age to get most of them....

Has anyone else opted to choose a diff. schedule than your docs?

I'm looking for any advice/schedules....

Well, to each their own on this one, I guess.  But my feeling is that the reason we don't have huge outbreaks of most of these diseases anymore is because a great majority of the children are immunized.  If we all chose not to immunize our children, what would happen?  I don't mean to open a can of worms with that statement, but you wanted to know how we feel about it...that's how I feel about it.

Just yesterday I was told by the pediatrics clinic that the two month vaccines are to be received most definitely at two months-no give or take.  After that, the other vaccines may be pushed back by as much as a month.

i agree with 2ndbaby. infact, you dont really even get an opiton here and have to have backup reasons why you dont want your child vaccinated if you are refusing. (religion etc..) Most schools/preschools require a copy of the vaccines in order for your child to go.

Don't get me wrong...i am def. going to have my dd vaccinated before she goes to school...i know that is required.
It's just that their little bodies shouldn't have to have ALL of these shots at once....ya know?
Again..i totally agree that they are required..and she will get them...i just want them spaced out a bit more.
You hear so many stories about what effects some vaccines have on babies...esp. MMR. I have also heard that the chicken pox vac. has actually caused babies to get the pox.
I didn't know that there are certain shots they had to get in the first 2 months...interesting....

Well with my negative experience my DD#2 had with Vaccines, my doctor and I agreed to schedule her vaccinations further out than the recommended "time schedule".  I also learned what each did, asked that when the time comes if the triple vaccines could be given at different times (yeah I know 3 pokes instead of 1), and possibly skipping a few (Polio and Chicken Pox for two), if he still used the mercury preservative based vaccines, and we are going to try to go from there.  I have a friend who refuses all vaccines for her son, however not sure I'm totally certain on that myself.

The Chicken Pox was given to my eldest... she's had 6 "mild" cases of Chicken Pox to date... I refused it for #2.

Polio, from what I have learned (and my no means is this certain) but Polio hasn't had any episodes except from children who have gotten the vaccination in the USA.

i feel the same way as 2nd baby. for years and years now, our population as a whole has increased due to vaccinations. i mean, what would you rather, have your baby get routine shots that millions and millions of children have gotten, or, by some rare chance, develop a deadly disease that you know could have been prevented? after i had edward in january, i did research on the topic before his first round of shots and the facts just dont add up. the studies aren't conclusive enough to convince me he shouldn't have his shots. like 2nd baby said, i don't want to open a can of worms, but vaccines were developed for a reason, imo.

what are your husbands main reasons for being against it?

as far as the schedules go, i trust edwards pediatrician. why would you opt to create your own schedule? as far as im concerned, i'm not a doctor, so i choose to listen to mine and follow their direction. what changes did they make in their schedule that concerned you? were they drastic changes? were vaccines normally given completely elimated? i wouldn't be concerned. i would hope they know what they're doing. if what your doctor says or does ever concerns you when it comes to anything, not just shots, i would think its time to find a new doctor. like i said, i've known and trusted edwards pediatrician my whole life, so i'm no help there.

good luck.

ok. i think i misunderstood a little. i thought that you were asking whether or not to get the shots at all? but i see now you are really just concerned with how many at one time. thats a whole different story. i was getting all opinonated earlier. edward is only 8 months old, so he had two rounds of 3 shots and the last round at 6 months was only 2 shots. he did well with them all. we haven't gotten into any of the chicken pox vaccines yet, so im not even sure what i will decide at that point.

sorry that i completely missed ur point.

no...i appreciate all views...that's why i posted it....
yeah...we are going to give her her shots...but just not so many at once...space them out a bit more...
i didn't have a chance to look at the cdc schedule yet..and will do so when my dd goes to sleep for the night...
she has done well with all of them thus far..and not major reactions...that we know of...

again...don't hold back on your view...i look at all ends...

There are no mercury based or Thimersol-containing vaccines being given to infants in the United States today.
Literally billions upon billions of doses were given to infants and children since they began vaccinating.  Thimersol has not been used for some years in vaccines given to infants and children.

Just so everyone knows.  There are some vaccines that can be given later if the parent wishes.
