Vaginal Delivery After C-Section

Vaginal Delivery After C-Section

I am about 5 wks pregnant with my 3rd child. First was a vaginal delivery, 2nd was c-section due to failure to progress. That one was almost 13 months ago. SO - I have read about vag. delivery after c-section, but am curious what all of your experiences have been. Do doctors shy away from trying to let you deliver vaginally after a c-section? I am worried about recovery with a toddler in-tow and would MUCH prefer a vaginal delivery recovery than a c-section recovery - bluck.

also curious if you think the epidural or the pitocin can contribute to failure to progress. I'm willing to give it a go without these two components if it means a vaginal delivery instead. (yeah - talk to me when I'm a few hours into labor - ha!)

I was induced with pitocin and had to have 3 epidurals.  I delivered vaginally after 11 hours of labor total and i was only pushing for 5 minutes so it's possible.

I had both an epidural and pitocin ( pitocin with all three of mine) and I progressed and had them all vaginally. I only had a epidural with the first so I don't know about thats stalling things out.  I believe regardless of what you do your body will do whatever it wants to ..  good luck hoping to be preggo with number 4 SOON

once the pit... starts if you can hold off on getting your epi. for a while (it has been known to slow the delivery down a bit) We are all diff though,  I waited til I was 7cm for the epi & wasn't slowed any :)

Had a friend that had 1 csection & 3 vag births, she done great!! Good Luck!!

Oh i am sooooo worried about VBAC as well! I want to have a vaginal delivery so much!! After i had my c-section it was the most horrible pain trying to recover that i had ever felt! I'm sure a vaginal delivery will be alot less painful! My dr asked me was i going for VBAC and i said YES! So that's what he put me down for! I hope so! I was induced for high blood pressure and had to have emergency c-section due to not progressing enough too! Wheww hope that doesn't happen again!

I'm sure that your recovery with a VBAC will be a lot quicker, but make sure you're well informed. At my medical group, they decided not to allow VBACs anymore. There is a 10% chance of something going wrong, they told me, but I didn't do more research since I had a placenta accreta and needed a repeat C-section anyway. On the other hand, I'm from Belgium and our princess had a VBAC, and I don't really think they take risks in the royal family ;-)

ugh - that sounds like a bad scenario either way!  Oh well - guess it is too late to worry about it.  Just so everyone comes out healthy. I'll let you know my doc's opinion when I go on Oct. 23.

I was hoping to have a vbac this time but dont have a choice as I have gestational diabetes again and they want to deliver by 38 weeks. If I didnt have the gd again I was going to try they wont induce you well at my hospital after a c section as it increases your chance of rupture from 5% to 25% and if you go into labour naturally they only let you labour for 6 hours and cheek your baby very closely there are risks but very small theres also risks in c section thats why im a bit nervous but know in my case doctors know best. One of my friends recently tried a VBAC as it has been 5 years since her previous c section and she said there was so much pressure on her scar after that amount of time she nearly got there got to 7 cm dialated and baby got stressed so another emergency c section for her. Good luck hope you have a better outcome.

Yeah, uterine rupture is a risk, but I have a feeling that this decision not to allow vbacs might be influenced by insurance-issues as well ;-)

My specialist told me after you have 2 c sections its always a c section after that they only try vbac if you have had only 1 c section due to risks well thats what they told me I guess they odd doctor might try it.

I have had 2 C-sections and would love to have a vaginal birth. I don't know if anyone will let me try if I get pregnant, but that is my wish. A midwife told me that V-Bac studies recently have shown more risk than originally thought. So doctors are less likly to do them. But she said what is causing the ruptures is the use of drugs during the delivery. The pitossin causes the uterus to contract much harder before body is ready and that is causing ruptures. She said if a doctor lets me try, then definately do not use any of those drugs. Good luck with everything.

I know I'm sure they won't let me, but it would be nice. I'm just going to ask anyway. I don't want to put me or a baby at risk though. I'll just be thrilled if one of these pregnancy test in the next several days show up positive!!!!!
