Vanishing Twin or Miscarried Twin

Vanishing Twin or Miscarried Twin

I have been posting during the last few days, and I have had some responses to my questions, but I wanted to ask this specific question to everyone on the forum.

Can anyone give me details on what it was like to miscarry a twin and still keep the other? I think this is what happened to me, but I want to hear other people's experiences.

Also, can anyone tell me about Vanishing twin syndrome??

THANKS~

I had ivf with my little squirt.  He was a twin.  We saw 2 egg sacks at 6 weeks by transvaginal u/s.  We were so excited - but a little scared.  We had already booked a trip to disney land and on the trip I had brown discharge and I know this sounds really gross but like thick gravy in lumps.  I had sharp pains and called the doctor.  He told me to double the progesterone, drink lots of water, and that I would be okay. As quickly as it started it was over.  I continued the water and the double progesterone.  I was convinced it had just been extra blood/build up from the fibroid/cyst operation, the egg retreival, the ohss, and ultimately the embryo transfer.  It wasn't.  Upon our return there was one healthy baby during our next u/s.  I was told the other baby had been reabsorbed.  I was okay with it tho.  I know that sounds cruel.  But we had tried for 10 years for our own baby and I was just so happy and excited and so thankful to see that little guy I just focused on him and keeping him safe and loving him.  He's a year old now and he's a fighter.  He fertilized, survived being in me with operations, stuck it out, came early at 32 weeks, and is such a blessing.

During our first pregnancy a smaller sac with nothing in it was seen on the 10 week ultrasound.  I was told this is very common.  Because a chromosome abnormality was suspected with our baby, we didn't think much about the "blighted ovum", we were too worried about the little one we were expecting.  I had no miscarriage symptoms, but 2 weeks after our daughter was born (perfectly fine and at 40 weeks) I passed what I suspect was the remains of the ovum.  It burned as it passed, and it really grossed me out!

I had tried to breastfeed, but never engorged, and our little girl was losing weight, so I started using formula.  I suspect that the ovum remains/placenta was still there, so it affected milk production.  (I was shocked by the engorgment after our second child was born!)

So, about losing a twin...  In retrospect I wish I knew with certainity how far he or she developed, or if no deveopment ever occured.
