if so he may have been looking at his particular growth patern.
at my son's 3 year appointment i was concerned about his weight, i thought he might be just ever so slightly on the chubby side for his age....the doctor pulled out a chart with ALL of my son's heights and weights on it and assured me that because of his height he is perfect for his age.
they like to see them follow a nice gradual growth patern. instead of big jumps or dipps....i bet that is what he was looking at.

They check his head circumference, ht., & wt. at every appt. He looked at the head circumference & said Hmmmm..., looked on the growth chart, then said it was ok. That's the part that worried me. I know it is ok, but how big is too big. I don't know why I didn't ask him.
I can totally relate to your worries - My little one has always had a big head (so they - the drs - say) she was in the 3% on her weight, 5% on her height and her head was 90% - however, her head never really looked that big to me or anyone else-it just measured big -I was really worried and I would always ask everyone if she looked like she had a big head - never once did anyone make a comment about the size of her head except at the drs. but it followed her growth pattern. She became very ill last winter and spent 5 days at the childrens hospital. One of the drs came in and the first thing she said was - has she always had a big head...Oh, nevermind-I try to look at the parents first and...I think her head size is just fine...(NOT FUNNY! POOR BEDSIDE MANNERS (lol) ) so...ya know - I'm with the others, if the growth arch flows...don't worry - I just say we have lots of BRAINS! (ha ha ha)...If it would make you feel better, you could ask your drs office to send you a copy of the growth chart then you can take a look...
I know you didn't ask for the reason "why" they measure the head but it is because they want to make sure the head isn't growing too fast......there are medical issues to be checked if that is the case. I'm sure the same is said if it is growing too slow also.
My ds is also 6 months old and I'm sorry but I don't know what his head measured at his last appt. I have his wt and ht but I didn't ask about the head. Your son is a bit bigger than mine but his ht was 26 1/2 and his wt was 17lbs 15oz...might as well just say 18 pounds as I know he is at least that now.
Doc didn't tell me how he measured on the 'growth chart' but when I went for a WIC appt they told me that his ht was in the 50% and his wt was in the 90%........
If you feel there is a problem or you are worried just put a call into your pedi I'm sure they won't mind and it would put your mind at ease.
Thanks for the responses. It is not worrying me to the point that I need to call the Dr. as the Dr. said today it was ok. I know hydrocephalous is not an issue with him. I was sort of just wondering how big is too big at his age & how others his age were measuring.
BTW there is a page on the baby center website that you can put in your baby's info: Ht, wt, gender, age, & head circumference & it tells you what percentile they are in.
