Hello, I just found out I'm pregnant and am currently addicted to vicodinVicodin Vicodin tuss. I have already weaned myself down from about 20 vicodinVicodin Vicodin tuss ES a day to about 10-14 a day. I am planning if all goes well to continue my weaning. My question is have I already done harm to the baby? I know that if you're taking it when the baby is born, the baby can be addicted. But, I am not planning on taking it much longer. Maybe a month to fully wean off. I am just concerned that the damage has already been done. Does anyone know? This was a surprise pregnancy so I was certainly not planning on being an addicted mom! Please help!
One VicodinVicodin Vicodin tuss ES contain 500 mg of Tylenol. You can safely have up to 4 grams a day of Tylenol for BRIEF periods of time...That is 8 pills a day. Even using 4 grams a day of Tylenol for prolonged periods of time has been shown to cause liver failure in some people. If anyone taking Tylenol or Tylenol containing products such as Vicodin or Percocet and drinks, the potential to destroy your liver increases dramatically.
And we haven't even broached on the subject of the hydrocodone in the Vicodin. It probably isn't the threat that the Tylenol is right now.
Sunny--seriously, you need to see a doctor and get help immediately. You need to have tests done to see how your liver is functioning. You also need help detoxing from the Vicodin. It isn't as easy as you might think to get off and stay off. You not only need medical attention at once, you need guidance and help emotionally and psychologically to figure out why you were abusing drugs, and how to get clean.
I am not preaching at all--I am extremely concerned for your well being for chronic over-ingestion of a potentially lethal drug--Tylenol.
Thank you Christie! I know about the effects of tylenol. I had a Liver function test in August and it was normal. I appreciatte your quick response. I just had no plans to become pregnant.... It has forced me to confront all the BS thats happening right now, which is good. I think this will finally be the chapter that ends my vicodin story.
From all I've read, the vicodin is not toxic, but the tylenol is.... God I just want this baby to be alright! I have an OB appt. on wed. this week.
Please come clean to your OB about it. I've seen lots of gals with Vicodin and Percocet addiction. It is tremendously hard to beat permanently. There are tons of services available, especially for pregnant women. Please don't think that just because you use, your baby will be taken away from you. It's the people who DON'T get help that are at the highest risk for that. It shows extreme maturity and good decision making skills to ask for help. So admit what's happening and ask for help to get off and stay off. DSS is always extremely willing to work with women who admit their problems. I've been an OB nurse for 27 some years--I know how it goes. Starting to seek help this early in pregnancy shows you are intelligent and willing to work hard on your problems...not just floundering around on your own and risk relapsing later.
Getting off it isn't so hard, it's the staying off that is the killer. Whatever problems you had that allowed you to become a drug user is still there, and will be there, lurking and waiting for a vulnerable time, unless you uncover it and face it head on.
And--while it's a good sign that your liver function tests were ok in August, your liver can crash in a heartbeat. Literally can fail overnight. You won't be in the clear until you are completely off of it for a while.
I wish you all the best in the world. Come back often if you need to talk. We're a great bunch of gals.
Well, ladies here I am finally! I emailed Angel to let you all know that Colton was born! Haven't had a chance to read through and catch up on posts, but thought I would share his story at least and if I am up to it, then catching up! :)
Sunday night (7th) my water started leaking. I figured I would just bring it up to OB at my morning appt since it didn't seem to be much. Well, it must have been more than I thought becuase when I went in Mon morn, he had very little fluid in there!I had apparently leaked all night long! Appt was at 9am and OB went out of exam room and came back in and said "Go straight to the hospital. We are taking him at 12:30." I was in shock!
When I got to the hospital, everything moved really quickly. My nurse was EXCELLENT (Christie, you have sucha wonderful job! I just loved all my nurses!!) She was extremely patient with me as I was understandably very anxious. The surgery started and within 11 min's, my little boy was born. Feeling him come out of me was the most amazing feeling in the world. But the epidural med's weren't working properly (rather than being numb, I felt a burning sensation) so after he came out and I got to see him, they put me to sleep for the remainder of the surgery.
As soon as they put him on the warming table, he peed!! LOL Right after I got to my recovery room, they brought him in to nurse and he knew what to do right away. He was rooting the second he got close to my breast and latched on as if he were an expert!
Having a little boy around is a new experience. We have had to master the art of changing his diaper quickly! He is such a cuddle bug, loving to be closely held and tightly wrapped. DH is LOVING him of course and being a HUGE help. He is always at my side offering to change a diaper or fix me a sandwich. He is also closely monitering my diet to be sure I am not feeding the baby "poison" (anything that will give him gas! LOL). HE is very interested in the whole nursing process and at first would try to help puch his face on my breast like he saw in the video at nursing class! LMAO It was too funny. Now he realizes the baby can do it himself, but he still likes to watch. I think he is enamored with the fact that my breasts have our baby's meals ready made when he is hungry!
Anyway, still a little sore, but moving around more and more every day. As for now, this little guy is hungry again! Be back again soon!
I realized after I posted that I had forgotten to post his stats!
7lb 14.8oz
20 inches long
And I forgot who I was having the discussion with about heartburn and hair....but he has LOTS!!A whole head of beautiful dirty blonde hair that is the EXACT color of his Daddy's! And I did have heartburn nearly every night!
I wish... I'm still here! My dr. said he will induce me Mon or Tue if I haven't delivered so I am keeping my fingers crossed for today. Also, I had my tooth looked at in an Emerg. Dental clinic, and I do need a root canal. Funny thing is, I haven't had any pain overnight or this am yet. Maybe I'm getting a little reprieve so I can deliver today!!!??? Officially 6 days overdue. Thanks for asking. Good Luck with your move.
I have been so worried about you, I figured you were enjoying your little boy.. That was me that you were having the conversation about the heartburn and the hair.. I just know my little guy is gonna have a head full of hair too, I can't make through the day without eating TUMS!!!!
I am so happy for you, hopefully you can start to get back to normal just in time for Thanksgiving. Keep us up on how you and Colton are doing.
Take care and congrats again to you and your family..
o.k. here is my question. i was 6 weeks pregnant when i found out i was pregnant and had been on vicodin for 5 years. I did abuse them for a while and then realized the effects and took them as prescribed.. 3 a day 5/500 when I found out I was pregnant, I stopped! No withdraws but im wondering if it was a mind conrol thing? My question is, I now take one a day, sometimes 2 if in severe pain, everything I read is from abuse of opiates. is there any effect on the fetus from this amount? Is my baby going to have an addiction? I take it due to a bad back and my OB said if I was in pain then what other choice do I have. He wasnt against it but wasnt all for it. I have found NO evidence of any babies born with any bad effects from mothers using hydracodone. can anyone help ease my mind? I have even paid to talk to Dr."s over the internet and they said it was ok but was it really a dr.? I need advice. I am not 14 weeks pregnant and as far as I know all is ok.
hi
i was wondering if anyone had any recent info on vicodin and pregnancy. i've been on vicodin for a couple of yrs now. it started out when i lost weight and one day i couldn't get out of bed, the neurologist i saw said it could've been from an accident i had 3yrs prior a couple of slip discs in my neck, i was only averaging 10 every 3 mos. the last yr and half i put some eight on and my neck was hurting on a daily basis. Long story short, i just was recently in a car accident that has brought alot of pain on my lower back. i have yet got a mri, but i know by the pain it's discs i also have nerve damage, my toes go numb and pain down my arms like i 've never expierenced before. now my question, i take (6) 7.5/325 hydrocodone a day along with muscle relaxers for the spasms. i am 25 and believe it or not, ii am not a partier, especially because of the meds i take, i wanted to know if i were to get pregnant how harmful would this be to the embyro and fetus.
We all keep asking questions but none of us are getting any answers. So, I am going to give an update on my use of Vicodin and pregnancy...... I don't recommend unless in severe pain, and only if it is prescribed to you by your Dr. I am 6 months pregnant and have been taking it. Do not take in first trimester due to circulatory problems it can cause with the development in your baby. I take no more than 2 a day! You must take in moderation and no one has an answer to what moderation is so this is my moderation and my Dr. said it was fine! I have had an ultrasound every month on my routine checkup and the baby is developing fine. Everything looks good. My baby is as healthy as we can see. I do not recommend that by my comment any one base there use of Vicodin. Everyone is different and if you are addicted you must seek help from you Dr. Make sure you talk to your Dr. about it... they wont judge you. I was very concerned about this and have done lots of research and lots of talking to my Dr. ( I have a bad back) So far, I am healthy and so is my baby. Please remember that everyone is different and develops differently. Again, do not base my story on your use of Vicodin just dont be stupid about it!
I just had my twin babies one week ago, I was 33 weeks pregnant. I took percocet throughout my entire pregnancy. I was taking them before I got pregnant and continued taking them while pregnant. I was concerned/scared throughout that they might be addicted and I did all the research I could. I am happy to say that my babies are PERFECTLY HEALTHY. They are breathing on their own and have no signs of withdrawl. In the beginning of my pregnancy until I was about 5-6 months I was taking around 60-80 miligrams a day and towards the end I was taking around 40 miligrams a day. I was told that you have to take over 80 miligrams a day for the baby to become addicted. Vicodin is close to percocet, but is actually less potent. Now everyone is different and I am not saying that you should go pill crazy and take whatever you want, but if you take the least amount you can without having withdrawl then you and the baby should be fine. It is worse to go through withdrawl while pregnant, then to continue taking them. If you have to take a large amount every day in order to not have withdrawl, close to delivery then you might want to let your doctor know because the baby could go through withdrwal.
Hey i just wanted to say i was worrying so much because throughout my whole pregnancy i took percocet, vicodin, and xanax. I stopped the xanax a week before i delivered my baby boy. I took percocet and vicodin, like 35-40mg a day until i delivered and my little boy was born three days ago and is as healthy as they come. Just make sure you keep taking your prenatal vitamins and dont take the stuff unless you need it. But i know i worried myself sick everytime i put a pill in my mouth. My baby is perfect
To: The mothers that are posting that there babies are fine after taking drugs
I am a concerned grandmother who's unborn grandchild has been exposed to vicodin through out his mother's pregnancy. All I hear is that your babies are healthy and ok. How old are your babies? If there are long term effects for the adults, what makes you think there will not be long term effects on the babies. Do you know what mental or physical problems may occur in these babies by the time they reach school age? How do you know that your babies are ok due to your drug use? Only time will tell that. If he is cranky as a new born are you going to chalk that up to colic or an upset stomach or to drug withdrawals? I was very disappointed that there were no comments from the medical field about the use of these drugs. Sometimes we just have to use our common sense, which in this case is, they are all drugs and you can not guarantee the long term effects on your fetus and your children, Making up excuses and reasons to take them are not acceptable. Becoming a parent begins with making good choices and good decisions from conception and as long as you are responsible for your children.
hi I am 19 weeks pregnant and I became addicted to vicodin about 2 yrs ago when I was in a car accident. I have been taking them off and on for the past 18 months and I weaned myself off them but once my father had surgery I became hooked on them again. I took about 200 vicodens in the past month. About 2 every 4 hours. I have stopped taking them and am very worried about my babies health. I am almost 5 months far along and am having some withdrwal symptoms. Would it be safe to methadone? And do you think I caused any permanant damage to my baby?
hi my sister is pregnant and taking all kinds of prescripyion drugs vicodin, methadone, xanax, and nurontins thats what i know of. I am very scared for her and the baby she hasnt been to doctor yet and she is about 4mo. she has went to the ER a few times for bad teeth and hasnt even told them. they have given her shots of antibotics and painkillers. what should I do? I have tried to talk to her and she just gets pissed at me and blows me off!!! HELP!!!
bluegirl
For the sake of your sister and your niece/ nephew, you NEED to get her help. Call child protection Services, or get take her to the doctor yourself. You have to intervene here, this is very serious. I dont know how old your sister is but have you told your parents what is going on. At this point you cant worry about her being mad at you for "telling" on her. She will thank you in the end. Please get her some help.
i agree wih grose you need to intervene because its not only the baby she could lose its her own life if she miscarries and doesnt get the baby out she has a good chance of losing her own life I just lost a baby do to a blood clot in the umbilical cord it my wife and i s do date was july 1 and the doctor was going to induce july 3 well we got up there and couldnt find the heartbeat and they done an emergency c section but my son was already gone we had felt his last kick about 15 hours earlier. Its a horrible thing and it hurts really bad. People like your sister make me fu**ing sick taking a very very precious thing for gran. but if you love your sis admit her yourself
ok first of all I actually sat here and read what some of you had posted and honestly all I have to say is I am disgusted!!! what kind of questions r u asking...will my "newborn baby" be ok if I am a drug addict!!??? NO NO NO Of course not!! when u are pregnant u have to watch everything u do including what ur eating and putting in ur body!! if u cant handle it then u should have been responsible enough to use protection or Stop whatever it is that ur doing that can be harmful to ur child!!! come on its a baby!! if anything happens to YOUR baby ur gonna regret it for the rest of ur life!!
oh and also bluegirl...ummm u seriously need to get ur sister help and quick!!! really this stuff upsets me it is soo sad!! dont post questions that im sure u already know the answer to!! DO THE RIGHT THING!! GET HER HELP IMMEDIATELY!!
Im not trying to be mean and scare u guys but do u even know what ur asking!!? its pathetic!! and i just had to say something...sorry if i offended any of u but its reality!!! wake up!
Did you know that 20 Vicodin ES delivers a toxic, potentially lethal dose of Tylenol to your liver? And you are STILL taking a potentially lethal dose at 10-14 a day?
