Vicodin withdrawl(withdrawal) during pregnancy

Vicodin withdrawl(withdrawal) during pregnancy

I have been taking vicodin aprox. 4 a day for 5 months for post herpetia neuralgia, after having shingles from a surgery. Found out I am 6 weeks pregnant and have stopped cold turkey. I have no energy and am very weak and nausa, pregnancy doesn't help in that area. Had some leg aches and flu like symptoms. Cold alot of the time. I understand these are withdrawl (withdrawal) symptoms but I want to know how long they should last. I am going on a week or so. Probably shouldn't have gone cold turkey but did so no turning back. I have absolutely NO feelings of wanting to take them they even make me feel sick to think of it. I just want to know how much longer this will last and is there anything outside of a prescription I can do to help with this discomfort. I am miserable!

Did your doctor recommend that you stop cold turkey? It may be that the withdrawal is more harmful to you and your baby than the drug. I'm not sure about vicodin in particular, but I know its in a class of morphine derivatives that are probably safer than other analgesics in pregnancy. NO MATTER WHAT you should ask your doctor about it; even though you can't undo what has already happened, they may at least have a safe way for you to get through the withdrawal. Good luck.

Check with your doctor  I dont like taking any drugs when pregnant but sometimes  things have to out weigh the consequences
Did you plan this pregnancy? Or did you just find out now that you were on the pills. You can be feeling some of these effects from being pregnant but I would advise to make a doctor appointment asap!!  Hope all goes well

We did not plan this pregnancy while I was taking a narcotic. However we are happy and feel very blessed to be expecting. Thank you for your advice.

first, let me commend you for quitting and not taking vicodin for a week.  withdrawals shouldn't hurt your baby and the drug should almost be out of your system.  just hang in there.  it will pass. good luck!
