WHy DD won't sleep through the night???

by decogrl, May 25, 2007 12:00AM
I am at my witts end.  DD 8 months stopped sleeping through the night.  She got her teeth, I don't see any other tooth buds right now about to erupt.  THere have been no changes to her sleep routine.  She gets up EVERY night at 2:30 and has me up for an hour.  Then gets me up again at 6AM.  I have to go to work and I am like a zombie all day.  HELP!!!

you know, my 8 year old recently started sleeping through the night. I'm crossing my fingers about my 6 year old, any day now! I think I have a ways to go for the 3 year old though. lol...

it's part of motherhood. there are stages you have to get through, some good, some bad and unfortunately, most stages disturb their sleeping patterns. As soon as you get past one problem, something else wakes somebody up, and it starts a domino effect all over again.

This too shall pass. (in about 10 years) Hang in there...

I'm with mommy - my daughter now 11 starting sleeping through the night at about age 4.  I am now pregnant with my son and I got to start all over again.  I think the first year of my daughter's life, i didn't sleep through the night.

My DD is just about 9months old and isn't close to sleeping through the night..... I keep praying that one day it will change but so far, no luck.
Every child is different.
I know what youu're going through.  My DD wakes up at least 5 times a night sometimes as much as 10.  I haven't slept more than 2 consecutive hours since before I was pregnant.  Every time I finally sall asleep she wakes up.
Hoipefully it will stop soon.
Good luck!

My 10 year old ds still doesn't sleep through the night, but he doesn't bother me anymore, now my 16 month old dd, she stopped sleeping through the night at about 7 or 8 months old.  If I put her in bed with us she will go right back to sleep most nights.  i know it's not good to start doing that, but I need sleep!!!  lol.  Hopefully it will get better soon.  Good luck.

Hi, my dd is 8 mos on the 28th. She is FINALLY sleeping through the night. I was feeding her when she would get up in the middle of the night and I know that's a no no. They say if they get up for a feeding, give them water and then they won't think it's worth getting up for. My dd still turns and squeaks around 2-3 and I run in and pop the paci in and walk out. Sometimes I don't even do that. They say if they cry more than 10 min. go in pick them up/comfort them and then put them right back down. It used to be so easy for me to pop her bottle in and quiet her up so that she would go back to sleep. What /how much are you feeding your baby?

Maybe you could start ignoring her a little at 2:30a.m.  The more you get up to see her, the more she will keep doing it.

When my dd was that age, actually younger, when she cried, I would let it go a little longer each time til I spread out her hours of sleep more and she also realized I didn't jump to each cry......

I think my daughter slept at about 5months thru the night......she is 4 y.o. now and we don't have any problem with her....she sleeps all the way thru...

However, lately, she does seem to dream a lot, maybe due to all her happenings at school....she does cry out sometimes and me or hubby go in and tuck her in time to time......otherwise, she is great.

Good luck.....but your baby will turn around I'm sure.

Sue, I hear you.  I posted the same thing a few weeks ago.  Ariella woke up 2-2:30 on the dot every night and still does.  I don't know what to tell you but to say that this is what happens once they start teething.  Even though you may not see the teeth coming through, there's still lots of action going on.  Do you give Ameera anything for the pain?  We use Hyland Teething Tablets.  She still gets up at night but she fusses a lot.  Since we share the bedroom, I or DH get up right away to rock her back to sleep.  Could she be hungry?  Or she wants to play?  Sorry you're going through this but I'm right there with you.  I also work full time and this is driving me insane :(((  How many teeth does Ameera have right now?

Hi! Just thought I'd pop in to say hello. Lily has a big fat 0 teeth :)  My dr. at 4 months said I should be getting at least 7 hours out of her a night so it was hard, but I just let her cry a little put her paci back in and walk away and she would go back to sleep.  She goes to bed early these days like 6- 7 but is usually in bed until 5 or 6.  How much are you feeding Ariella? Is she crawling??

I feel you!  I just posted about my ds (didn't see your post before I posted mine).  He does better at night, as  long as he sleeps with me, but his naps are a nightmare!  He's only 6 mo. old and should be taking 3-4 hours worth of naps a day and today he's had a total of 1 hr.!  He usually wakes up once during the night to nurse but then will go immediately back to sleep and sleep about 6 hours before he gets up for the day.  But I can't get him to go down for the night until about 10pm.  DH and I get no private time!

Hi, sorry I didn't log in for a few days :(  Ariella's not crawling but she does this weird thing that looks like she's leaping.  It's funny and dangerous at the same time.  I have to be with her ALL THE TIME if she's not on the floor.  Somehow she manages to get in trouble all the time.  I can only imagine how much fun we'll have once she's walking ;)
Ariella has 1-2 vegetables and 1-2 fruits a day in addition to 30 or so oz of formula.  I have not started with table foods yet as I have to be careful due to her reflux.
She's had 2 teeth for over 6 weeks now and I see no other teeth coming in but she's crankier than ever (and they say that the first two are the hardest).  What's going on with your little one?

my 81/2 mo old ds just started sleeping thru the night this past week. it is so nice b/c he was waking up often. i hope this is a permanent change and not just the result of a few margaritas i had the other night that may have passed into my breastmilk, lol. also the other night i put him in his crib on his back, and when i went to check on him a few mins later he was asleep on his tummy. that was the first time he flipped over onto his tummy and went to sleep. usually he would cry. well he "slept like a baby" that night. i really think he was much cozier and able to stay in a deep, deep sleep all night. that was at 9:15 pm, when he woke at 6am he was still on his belly.
