Waiting to menstruate after D

1) It's been 6 weeks since the D&C (becuase of a M/C) and no period, how long should I wait before seeing the doctor?  She told me on the day of the D&C I would menstruate 3 weeks after the D&C.
2) If I got pregnant today would that cause problems for myself or the baby?

Have you taken a preg. test? I was told to wait for 2 cycles after my D&C before we try but have heard of women getting preg. right after D&C.  I too am waiting, had my 2nd mis. and my D&C on April 20th so it has been almost 4 weeks for me and no cycle yet....we have been safe because we have to have tests run for recurrent miscarriages before trying again.  Maybe you should test just to ease your mind?  Some women take a while to get "normal" cycles again, maybe we are both in that category?

After my D&C last year, it took me at least 6 weeks before I got my period again, I think it was actually closer to 7 though. Its different for everyone. I'm really surprised your doc told you 3 weeks is normal, that's seems really soon to me. I think all the stress after having a m/c & D&C etc is enough to make some of us have to wait longer before our first period too. You could also take a test, you never know. Good luck and I'm thinking of you.

After my D&C it took me 9 weeks to reach zero HCG level, and then another week before AF arrived. So 10 weeks in all to get my first menstrual cycle after my D&C.
Every woman is different, so I woldn't worry too much until you get to 8-10 weeks..
My doc said that it is very common to be anywhere from 6-10 weeks before getting your first post D&C cycle.

But now, I am back on my regular 30 day cycles. So everything is well!!

I had a natural m/c but my doctor said that with a D&C and natural it can take 6-10 weeks to get AF.  So 3 seems really early.  He said it can take 4-6 weeks just for hCG to get to 0 and until that happens you won't begin your new cycle.  So I wouldn't worry!

After my mc on 3/3, it took me until 4/21 to have AF. It was exactly 7 weeks to the day. Also, it was when I should have started naturally. I always have started during the middle weekend of the month. I did get scared though bc it took so long to show up. I ended up calling my dr, getting blood taken, and low and behold, two days later (4/21) there was AF, in the am as always, right on time!
As far as you getting pg right away, every woman is different. Some get pg right away and are fine, deliver a healthy baby. On the other hand, some women go on to mc again. If you are ready, your body will let you know. If you do happen to get pg before AF comes along, your body will know how to take care of itself.
My dr recomended to wait at least 1 cycle. Most drs range bw 1-3, sometimes 6 cycles! It is bw you, your significant other, and your dr.

mine took 6 weeks 1 day to come and i was so happy to see it!! haha..

I recommend waiting at least 1 cycle to try and get pg again.  A D&C is very traumatizing to your uterus.  It literally scrapes away the entire lining and the lining has to regrow.

GOod luck,
I m sorry for your loss..

My doctor yesterday told me to wait one cycle.  He said that their is no medical reason to wait any longer.  They used to think 2-3 was best but knew knowledge says it makes no difference.  He also feels that emotionally it is better to begin after one AF.  He said the longer you wait the more difficult it is to try b/c you begin to "talk yourself out of wanting to suffer another loss".  But that is just one MALES opinion.....so who knows.  My cousin who hemmoraged and had an emergency D&C was rec. to wait 3 cycles b/c of blood loss and trauma.  She got prego her 3rd month and now has a happy baby boy who will be 1 in June.
Good luck!

Thanks everybody.  I just got the results and am not expecting.  I will see an endocronologist soon and get my thyroid checked out, so I can be healthy for the next pregnancy.

I also am waiting for AF.  It's been 7 weeks since my D&C.  My hcg levels were down to (3.2) 5 weeks from my D&C. And if we don't start our cycles until we reach 0 then I have a ways to go.  My cycles are 6 weeks apart.  Still, I'm anxious to have my AF, so I can wait a couple of cycles before TTC again.

Hi there,
It is such a great help to read all of your comments. I had a D&C last week, the secont on in the space of 5 months, the first one was terrible, the stress of it all. Mentally is was a nervous wreck, but the thought of being able to try again really helped my mental state of mind. Then the great news pregnant again my family (daughter 7 years and Husband) and I were over the moon..... all was going well the fear of another MC was so present that I hated going to the loo.. Then my first visit to the doc I was 10weeks and then the shocking news "sorry there is no heart beat to be seen" I nearly died and last week the D&C all went well. Now my doc has advised me to wait 6 months oh my god is all I could say...

Has anyone and idea why he would suggest to wait so long, I must add I have just turned 36.

All info welcome.

Thanks in advance........susan

I am sorry to hear all that everyone has gone through.  I too have gone through a lot in the last 6 months.  In nov of 2005 I found out I was pregnant (this would of been my third child)  I was so excited and I couldn't wait.  On Christmas Eve they told me I had to have an emergency D&C, which hit me really hard.  At 6 weeks AF came then shortly after I got pregnant again. The weekend before easter I was told that they didnt hear a heart beat and that a d&c was needed.  It has now been 7-8 weeks and I still have not gotten my period.  I have taken several pregnancy tests and nothing.  Though MY body feels like I am pregnant, my stomach looks huge and my breast feel big.  Though my girlfriend said it could just be hormones and AF is coming.  I am not sure what to do or think.  None of these pregnancies were planned so i thought that it was meant to be, but I was wrong.

Good news is that after a miscarriage and D&C in 04 - I had a baby straight away with no period in b/w,- didn't make any diff that I never had a period. Dated baby off a scan. Now have a healthy 1yr old.

Bad news is that I had another miscarriage and d&c in April at 12wks. Now 8.5 weeks later and no period. Am so worried there might be complications like Asherman Syndrome. Does anyone know if it is common to be 8.5 weeks + after D&c before next period?
